One Hour Compo - Round 701 (OHC701)
Outline
What is luck? Some say it's good fortune. Some say it's an increase in the improbable, whether it be positive or negative. Some say it isn't real. What does it mean to have luck on your side, or even against you? Tonight's theme is "Luck."

i knew a girl
who went by the name margarita
but the truth was
she wasn't as sweet
but she's pretty
and she's loaded
and her dad's a sheikh, uh
so i'm lucky that she sorta likes me
and my friends they
tried to find someone who'd treat me better
but i can't picture
someone else with me
so i did what any
other in my sitch would do
ignore advice
and then move in next week
i loved a girl
who went by the name margarita
but the truth was
she was always so dour
and all i've given up for her
my friends my dreams
couldn't save when her
affections grow sour
though the rose-tinted glasses
that i've taped to my face
ain't masking all those red flags so well
i'm lucky to be with my
ol' gal margarita
even though
she always puts me through hell
lucky to be her man
i swear it's not that bad
she's going through some things
she's not usually this mean
lucky she's still around
i know what's going down
she's going through some things
she's not usually this mean
entirely built from random selections of instruments, random selection of chord progressions, and arpeggiators set to randomly select intervals within the random chords. Serendipitously, it kind of worked.
Except that this did take like a few dozen takes, I eventually did record the final version live.
Composed with Modular + Minibrute 2s + VoiceLive 3 loop pedal
Roll the dice
Feeling lucky
Throw your chips
My heart's not lucky
Some days I just can't catch my break
There's no place for my mistake
You've got no place for me in your mind
You've got no place for me in your heart
The numbers don't favor me
The lucky one
The numbers don't favor me
I'm done
[Verse]
Some believe it's all random, a roll of the dice
Some will rub on a token to make it feel right
The belief that improvement can come to your life
and the touch of a charm can get you through the night
You discard the small notion and let the cards fall
There's no way to control your fate, nary at all
The idea that a keepsake with luck you can call
Is a fallacy, only a trap in you'd fall
[Chorus]
Good luck, with trying to follow all of your dreams
Good luck, it's not a fortunate as it seams
Good luck, with trying to have a happy good time
Good luck, is not a thing with which you'd rely
[Verse]
When a fate is turned, faith is spurned, doubt can be much
and the trinket you clutch is warm, not by your touch
You discard your old notions and go by a hunch
Not lean hard on the facts and instead by your trust
Roll the dice girl
I'll take you on
Up the bets now
My luck is hot
Happy 13 years Ramaniscence :)
i never thought it could be like this
never thought it would happen to me
one in a millionĀ
you're
one in a million to me
I'm not sure what will happen now. Adrenaline racing through my veins, I make one last movement, and my fate is decided.
you always win at the arcade token exchange machine
forgot what time it was SUPPOSED to start oops
First Compo!
A text challenge was a lot harder than I thought it would be ha ha.
This has made me realize many things about my workflow that I need to work on ha ha.
Excited ^^
I used a number and text generator to generate:
- The Polyrhythm i'm going to use for my main mallet motif's.
- The key signature of the piece
- 3 time signatures for each of the main drum hits, making this unstable groove.
- The tempo of the project
- Whether it's in a Major Key or a Minor Key
- The time signatures of the remaining drum hits.
So what you have here is a piece made entirely out of LUCK
