One Hour Compo - Round 800 (OHC800)
Outline
Imagine your younger self. You've just begun your music hobby, veering down the path of creating original music. You have a vision of what you want to create, but as a beginner it will take some time to gain the necessary skill to make the kind of music you envision.
Now you've reached your current skill level. But have you held true to your original vision? Have you created the music that you set out to make? Have you heard the songs that you envisioned yourself writing when you began making music?
Tonight's theme is "Music for your younger self."
Note: If you are totally new, write music similar to that which you have been inspired by.
Rules
You will have 1 hour to complete your song and 10 minutes to finish it up. You will then have an additional 10 minutes to upload your song. At 6 PST/9 EST you may begin your mixing, please have your files uploaded by 7:20 PST/10:20 EST. Join us for discussion on Discord!

pop punk for 10-year-old me, whose lola (grandma) had to move back to the philippines.
turning ten
is never truly easy
but then again
i'm bordering on cheesy
when i said
nothing in life will stay the same
that's just the nature of the game
your folks are talking
they never gave the reason
but you knew this day will come
your lola's gotta leave and
as she gathers up her bags she starts to say
we'll see her again someday
goodbye lola, my best friend
time for childhood to end
goodbye lola, my best friend
i pray that i'll see you again
when i first started out making music i couldn't decide whether i wanted to sound like trent reznor, my favorite video game composers (dave wise, yasunori mitsuda, etc), or arion salazar and bullmark's seminal funk soundtrack to the 1997 vehicular combat simulator Interstate '76
but i didn't know what i was doing so instead i mostly just made weird random chord pads with shoddy beats thrown on top and janky guitar bits sometimes as an afterthought
so here i attempted to combinine as much of the above as i could into one track, cannibalizing some old ideas and compo tunes along the way. usually i use compo to experiment with new ideas and explore new genres, but this might be the most straight up ME track i've ever done for OHC lolol
if i had more time i'd have definitely made it funkier tho
Don't you worry my child
You should know it will be just fine
In a few years or more
You will be OK

Unorthodox cover of Happiness by Red Velvet. here's to another thousand ohc's. cheers. love ya'll.
when I first started making songs, I had no 'identity'. no style, nothing to represent me. back then, I made music from my phone and had -really- no idea what I was doing. so, by complete accident, I'd created a song that sounded nothing like I'd ever heard before. it had an almost ethereal chord progression, and the perfect break to back it; the melodies were off and the whole thing felt... wrong. yet, so right, like finding a tune never meant to be found, but made for someone, or something. I'd called it 'Place and Time', and from there, my early identity was born. that's where upd|ate! came from. all of my songs had this weirdcore quality, and I loved every second, even if my mixes were god-awful, haha. but over time, as I got better, that vision slowly drifted away. I had to focus on getting better, and that vibe disappeared. but it's back today. everywhere, yet nowhere.
But I'm working on it!
Beatblock came in at the worst time possible so here's this

This is a remix of a track i constructed in round 640. I went for this, for two reasons. First off, i sometimes feel like old entries could definately benefit from a rework, and this felt perfect. But also i consider this piece somewhat special and here's why:
- This piece is versatile, allowing for multiple directions to be taken. It's a piece that i feel is always changing, to fit new ideas and styles.
- It's a piece that fits my personality in general, and is adaptable for any mood. It's either hyper energetic and crazy, or just chill and peaceful, like me and my music.
- It brings me waves of nostalgia, from when i was in my early days doing this compo. It reminds me of my crazy era when i was just presenting you with this WTF kind of attitude lol.
- It's nice to share something that represents me on a plate.
Consider this the official TVG anthem.
All in all i hope you enjoy this remix! I had a lot of fun making it. For those sceptical i did spend a lot of time on it, it isn't just a rush job or a lazy submission, effort was made. Have fun! Oh i forgot the link to the round: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHC640
The perfect song to which to dance the critically-acclaimed hit new dance, the Yoinky Sploinky
Music from my past self? Well then videogame sounds and unbridled chaos it is.
Happy 800th
15 years ago, I attempted to record this song for OHC. Here I am today, trying it again.
who was she?
don't listen to this
is this targeted? yes, yes it is.
mazedude sent me the source to "Cyborg Blobby" years and years ago. I wanted to make similarly glitchy music but haven't really.
so here's some.
this is for that kid.
also hi. happy round number to those who celebrate
Another remix of my theme (This is TheVideoGamer's alt), but this time using a piano, some strings and a melody. I kept it beatless, and made it more emotional. Because this is a milestone round i felt like giving a bit of a speech. Cheesy? Sure you could argue that, but i just felt it at the time. Anyways, thanks for being such a wonderful community, let's hope the next 100 rounds is a success! Thanks all!
I enjoyed the sega genesis as a child. I always try to encorporate some sort of crunchy genesis goodness into a lot of my music.
I did this on a cruise ship with an iPad in GarageBand with only Bluetooth headphones and the default iPad mic so the quality is bad and I could barely even hear the backing track while I was singing
Lyrics are something about me not ever thinking I’d be a singer. Like ever.
