In the light of such a personal theme, I had to judge based on euphony and coherence.

This was great. I’d have to listen to these again with real headphones and stuff to get a better sense but I’m glad that I have a community in all of you and I hope that I can continue to help you all participate and feel good about participating in compos. I’ve done over 750 of these and I hope that you all want to do many of them too.

my vote goes to three entries from people that i don't recognize from ancient times.

upd|ate!: this has an insanely cool "retro" "mid-00s bedroom" vibe to it that I love so so much.

lillymeadows: this energy is insane. a bit machine girl perhaps? dunno if intentional. rox tho.

nukage: delightful soundscape. i was anticipating heavier drums but then 1m happened and it Works.

much love, everyone <3

The best part of a milestone is the amount of O.G participants we get in this, including all the favourites. The worst part is that it amounts to close to around 30 entries, which is a lot to review. Either way thanks for an amazing 203 rounds that i was in guys, let's hope i can bump that up to 403 rounds. On to the voting!

As i reply to my comments on discord, this part (Where i normally write the replies here), becomes irrelevant.

TheVideoGamer - This track is a rework of my track Stratosphere from round 640. I had already made a remix of this for an April Fools round (The track was just ridiculously loud and fast lol), but that was mostly for the luls because of the round. In this case i wanted it to be a real remix, consisting of the original track in a different context. The good thing is, that the original was fast in a gabber style, so i could easily tailor it down to a more downtempo style, which is what i did. The original is simple, only really consisting of 4 chords throughout (So it's 2 chords for like 30 seconds, and then another 2 chords if you get me), done in a semi-ambient (There's that word you like Misael.K), style, that evokes a bit of a space feel. The original was about being both super calming but super energetic. For this one i just took the chords, mellowed the synths to make it more relaxing, including the arps and reduced the tempo to more walking pace so make it more of a downtempo groove. I also included some syncopated piano, matching the chords, as well as add a dynamic melody, something the original didn't have. Also unlike the original there is a stronger emphasis on arrangement, where it isn't just looped chords, but they're different dynamic changes, chord changes and other small stuff to keep it interesting and not repetitive. Anyways, this is getting long, so i'll just say thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it!

ThaTaskmasta - To say it's merely 3 instruments (Minus the speech at the end), people surprisingly liked it. I mean at this point i only had about 20-30 minutes left, so i just scrambled with the same chords, made a new melody than the first one, and added some more rhythms to the chords, instead of it amounting to 2-4 bars. It's not exciting, but it does add something to the overall theme, instead of it just being ambient stuff (Or mostly ambient as people say. God i am just a walking meme lol). I don't hate this, it definately feels like it has room to explore, but as with all theme songs, it represents me on a plate. This chaotic individual who never makes normal music lol. I just have to do this weird thing that is both oddly satisfying, but yet kind of annoying haha. I also added some words at the end from a TTS, because being such a monumental event, i needed to say my thanks to the people who run this, as these people really are the backbone of both ThaSauce and OHC. Thanks for tuning in guys, love you all!

THEGREATDESTROYER22 - Nice spooky intro, i feel like someone is behind me. Lots of really sweet stereo panning, on some sick percussion. Drum work is super strong, i really feel the energy. I dig the bassline in this, but it is a little masked by the drums. I feel the whole melodic ideas is blocked by the intense drums personally. I do like the occasional sweeps that plague in and out the piece it was very cool. Takes a little while to get into it, but when it does i rather enjoyed it. Has a lot of potential for sure, good job!

Garian - So is this not an entry? I'm confused lol. That is one juicy bassline, it feels like the start to some full on 80's nostalgia hit. The melody was very...interesting to say the least. It has no timing at all lol. I feel this was submitted as a mere way of saying "I entered", considering there is very little in terms of musical substance, and that's ignoring the mere 40 seconds of music provided. Sorry if it's harsh, but i heard a bassline and a very simple square melody in this, so i've been provided with nothing to really...critique. Sorry, but good job though!

dushillresident - I'm not the only one doing a callback to early entries, so that's good lol. This is kind of hard to follow, there is definately a chord progression and a melody, but the rhythms are soo all over the place, i can't tell what you're doing lol. The ending was abrupt also. I get this is a bit more experimental (Whilst retaining a bit of accessibility), but this was just...interesting is the word. The bass licks were cool, i liked the choirs and the synth pads that sound a bit 80's, but man i just couldn't keep up i'm sorry, this was a bit...too much sorry. Good job though!

cotmm68030 - Were going deep today. Even has a bit of that mild rain sample, that just makes the piece atmospheric. Lots of reversed sounds here it's very....film score like, kind of textural to boot. Wasn't expecting the pad chord route, but man i love it. This is a chill one, evident by the rich pad changes, and the soft impact of what is a light explosion. The track itself is very pretty and relaxing, even though these are not your typical happy chords. Lots of emphasis place on sound design. I do like the reverb usage a lot, totally fitting that warehouse reverb that is always lovely. I even love the different bassline changes, the light and shade parts, that's represented by the pad chords, as well as the many different subtle textures represented here. Honestly this is just a lovely well designed piece, probably my favourite even, it's lovely stuff. Such a shame i cannot vote for this one, but alas i can only pick 3 (Which was after narrowing it down to 10 entries even. Man this one was insanely hard to choose). It's still voting worthy though, it was awesome. Amazing work!

BJKMenu - Great guitar melodies, and cool modular styled beats. Wasn't expecting vocals in this, but i love it. It's pretty funny. I do like the Latin inspired beats in this, even though it's not Latin. The melodies are pretty fire, loving those chords. Lots of varied changes, that keeps the chords more or less intact. Every second there is a different take on the melody or a new melody and it's pretty cool. Not the most refined, but based on how you've sung the lyrics, you're clearly just having fun. Honestly it's a pretty fire guitar based piece, and the lyrics are funny as hell. Well done!

DarkShadow - Chiptune Shadow! The volume....is not ear rape wow. The melodies are amazing, and the rhythms whilst still undeniable DarkShadow, are pretty groovy in this. The SA3 kick was unexpected, but man the mix isn't soo loud or crazy. Yeah i'm in love with this, i really want more of this please. Even the melody is coherent and the chords are not sporadic (There is a discernible progression here). This was absolutely fire, i love this from you. No surprise it's the best DarkShadow entry ever at the moment. Would have loved to vote for this one, but alas i can only pick 3 (Which was out of a possible 10, which even then that was after narrowing it down), however i still think this is definately voting worthy. Amazing work!

Koekepan - You're 2 seconds over. That's it! I'm gonna tell Starla. Starla! Koekepan went over the limit by 2 seconds! All silliness aside, this is some cool wind sound effects, for a theme about essentially nostalgia. I dig the FM percussion here, processed with some pretty long delay effects. I do like the melody here, it takes a while to get going, but it's pretty nice. This is more of an extension type of piece. Basically you have a melody, that is consistently added on within each repeat. Steve Reich kind of does this, where he has an idea, and then slowly adds onto that idea, until he forms a coherent progression or melody. Some parts of the melody seem a bit Egyptian in feel. I don't know what they call it, but i think it's the Khmer scale. I do like how the melody gets more and more busy as time goes on, resulting in some pretty thick textures. I don't mind drone based music, hell i love it. Sometimes it can be awesome, in other cases i feel it overstays it's welcome a little. This is slightly towards the latter. I feel we could benefit from some chords here, maybe less emphasis on 2 notes in parts, to avoid thick dissonance, and also we could try a fade in and out approach in the melody, so allow for a bit of breathing room. I just felt some parts were a little sharp for my liking. I don't hate this though, the idea is super cool! I love the diversity of music on offer in this compo, even if not everything is my cup of tea. The idea has so much potential, and the melody was super cool! Good job!

Lyra_183 - We've gone from a very loud waveform to a quiet waveform (I'm comparing last weeks entry, not the previous entry lol). The melody is pretty fire here, great singing chops as always! I'd probably try and experiment with different registers for a bit of dynamics, but ultimately the composition was pretty great. Keep at it, good job!

Nukage - Cool filtered vocals! Or it could be a synth, i can never tell with you lol. That is a pretty great chord progression, and bassline. I feel like i'm in the runup to a boxing match with someone. Nice trap beat, loving that delay effect, feels unique to you. The switch into a clean beat was smooth AF, you really know your transitions. Surprisingly compared to standard Nukage productions (I'm aware standard is a loaded term), this is pretty quiet, with more emphasis on atmosphere, than hard hitting beats and basslines, there is something different here and i really like it! Ending was great also, you just go wild with the delay effects. I like this a lot, well done!

Sci - Living legend returns to our ears, and then will probably disappear for like another year or two lol. This is very hard hitting chiptune. There's barely any bits in this, to the point where even calling it one bit is a stretch. Surprisingly though, despite it's rawness, you introduce an absolutely fire melody and bassline. It feels very funky, despite it's harshness. I'm fascinated by it's uniqueness, both from just listening to it, but also from the entries i've normally listened to you (Which in fairness is not a lot lol). I kind of love this in a way, it's quite aggressive, and a bit much depending on the mood, however the melody itself is somewhat recognisable and definately comes with its charm. The unique quirkiness is why i've decided to give you this one, well done!

LillyMeadows - Lol to the title. Loving those cool chords, you are reminding me of an artist, that does these chords similar to this. The drum work is pretty....awesome. At first it felt a bit like background rumbles, but then you went into a full on rave session with some thick beats and trance stabs. I'll concede the first half was great, but i felt like it was the start of something, i felt like we weren't fully at that stage, but after the riser (Which personally it is a little loud. Remember that this is one guy's opinion. I might be totally wrong, or in the rarity), we go into this amazing dance section, that is definately an avenue for you to explore! That dance part was funky, had a great progression that wasn't super strange at all, and a sick beat and bass work to back it up. So much potentially especially for a minute, keep at it! Good job!

CJtheMusicDude - So many old faces, it's pretty great. I like the sort of semi rock vibes this one. The synths remind me of chugging guitars, and the drums are pretty tight. I do like the light arp in this and the occasional vocal sample work. The 2nd half is pretty great, with it's tight EDM kicks and synths, it feels like we've upgraded from the first half. Not gonna lie i was expecting some melodic variation in the 2nd half, rather than adding more of an EDM element to what is basically the melody in the first half. It feels like were not fully developed yet, but i do like the mix, and the melodic ideas already present were pretty fire. Ending was funny. Good job!

Updlate - These are some sick pad chords, kind of a mix between happy and melancholic. The saw lead was interesting, especially for what i thought was gonna be pure ambient, but instead you give us some sick amen work, complete with all the glitches too. I do like the acid synths in here, the stuff that is added really compliments the track nicely, even the melody is sick. The only thing i will say is that the background pads and synths get a bit lost when the drums come in, however they do work with the drums. The melodies are lovely in this, but the mix could be given a few more to really make it pop, it is a quiet waveform. However after delegating i eventually gave this to you, because there was more to like than dislike. Well done!

DDRKirby(ISQ) - Another one that is a rework of an old theme, nice! I love the chiptune elements, which is a big staple of your music. It's that perfect blend of oldschool sounds with modern production sensibilities. The synth melodies in this are awesome as always, and the chords are sick. This is a lot of fun, and definately like a hyper party. I notice (Although this one is super small), unless my brain is tricking me, the kick might be a bit quiet and hollow. However it's not too quiet, and it still does not dilute the awesomeness of the track. I could only pick 3 (Which was super hard, especially sifting through 10 entries), but this is definately voting worthy. Awesome work!

Xanthos - Cool synth riff there, loving the NES rave sounds here. Even got the Defender type snare going on. Even though this might be sequenced, it still feels like a live Xanthos performance for some reason. I was kind of expecting the pad sounds to be more in like with the NES, but i'm all for atmospheric elements. Sometimes it's nice to bring modern production values to classic sounds. I do feel like the kick is front and centre. I feel like we can go a little more epic, by introducing thicker chords, and maybe some stronger melodic lines (By stronger i'm referring to dynamics). The glitch elements are pretty....awesome to be honest. I felt like that was sequenced in GarageBand or logic. Towards the end we introduce some sick syncopated chords that i really dig. Honestly this track really takes form towards the end, and even though i feel we could add a touch or two more, there is so much to like, that it outweighs all the critiques. Well done!

Dex - The return of Punk Rock Dex! I think it's been a while. Those are some sick chords, it doesn't feel like a chord progression i was expecting, it's actually kind of cool. The melody is super sick! Totally fire stuff, really loving the mix here. Whole thing is very epic. The violin melody is also a really lovely addition, it adds a lot of RPG elements to the track (In that it reminds you of an RPG). Really there's nothing bad here. I would have loved for this to be on the list, but alas i can only choose 3 (It's soo annoying and hard), but this is definately worthy for the list. Amazing work!

A2Z - A2Z bringing out the beautiful chords. This is some amazing chordal work, even in a nice major key. I don't know what it is, you only really use 2 chord throughout, but yet you make it sound so peaceful and magical. To be fair this is more than 2 chords this time, but yet it still sounds magical. This is a wonderful progression, was not expecting that direction at all. The melody is amazing, and the layers just make it both chill and pretty. Drums were fire also! Shame this one is short, the real meat needs to be longer, especially for something this good. Hell even a copy and paste would have sufficed lol. In the end (And trust me, i had to go through 10 entries in order to narrow it down to 3), i decided to give you the 2nd spot, it's that good. Fantastic stuff, incredible work!

Arcana - Since you made this away from you're usual software, using nothing but an IPad and likely the built in mic in GarageBand (You're on holiday, who brings a microphone on holiday lol. Unless of course you are serious about producing, then i guess ok), i'm gonna go easy on you. Whenever i'm away, i too reach for the GarageBand, and that's when i will try and cook up something. I tend to mostly get 1-2 bar loops on my IPad, i find i get more beat block there, but that might be mostly just the GarageBand workflow, who knows. I do like that guitar, i have a feeling you used the guitar plugin, strumming with the record function. Honestly the track itself was pretty great to say it's IPad material. And the vocals are nice and clear, really nice tone. The only thing i don't like is the hi-hat. It's pretty loud compared to the rest, and it results in a very harsh hi-end. If you toned down the hat a lot, everything is actually pretty great. I thought the mix was gonna be too much, but no it's only the hi-hat really that bothers me. Still though, it was lovely of you to work on your day off haha. Thanks for the submission man it was great. Good job!

NickC - That's a cool metallic synth, i feel like i'm in the future, maybe even in space. Lots of great bass rumbles, i feel a bit uncertain. The pad chords are wonderful, it's that nice kind of granular pad, that makes me feel like i'm in another dimension. I wasn't expecting industrial drums, i kind of felt that we could have gone for more Electro/EDM drums, but either way it's fine. The only thing i will say, is that the pads are wonderful, but the drums are loud compared to the rest, so it results in some seriously thicc drums. To me it's mostly a mixing thing. That little tweak, might even get this to voting potential. I'm on the fence, as the pad chords really make it, but the drums just push it all down. In the end, i relistened to it, and found that the drums only really comprise about 40-50 seconds of the whole piece, and the melody is kind of discernible, so really that's why i'm giving you this one. This one definately grew on me, to the point where i would have loved to vote on it, but alas i only have 3 to choose from. It's so hard. Definately voting worthy though, amazing work!

Lunarice - I do love that mystical marimba sound, i feel like this could also work for an EDM beat, maybe based on how popular the sound is. I do love the occasional reverb flourish it's pretty great. I do like the bassline in this, pretty thick. The only thing that if i were to be honest puts me off, is the change in synth during that part. The mallet was clear and concise, and provided me a bit of a childlike spookiness to the sound. The 2nd synth is a bit short and....clicky if i were to use the best term. As a result the bassline mostly sounds like a bassline, and there isn't much in terms of actual synth riffs as such. The chords towards the end were great, and i love how you introduced a beat, but in this part i felt the chords could have also worked for a long pad sounds, so it doesn't feel like there is a lot of empty space. However i do understand the style, and i do feel this potential here. Lots of fun, Good job!

Suzumebachi - Pretty chords. Loving the 4th and 5th usage, i feel very chill, and kind of nostalgic. I know you make incredible harmony, and this time the pad sounds, and the spacing of the notes, just hits different. The bassline transition feels very C418. Loving the soft kalimba, this would not feel out of place in Minecraft. The melody is pretty....corrupt in an awesome way. It's not detuned, but it reminds me of those hard driver covers on Youtube in terms of sound. It adds a wonderful authentic element to the track, without it being cheesy. I was not expecting drums in this, but it does provide a wonderful texture and dynamic change it's awesome. It's part glitchy, part smooth. The guitar work also makes for a lovely 80's style feel. It's just stuff i was not expecting, but it adds so much to the piece. I mean i can't really say anything else, this is actually pretty awesome, which is not surprising considering some of the insane harmony choices you do. After an insane amount of delegating (Which believe me, i had to sift through 10 awesome entries, it's soo hard), i decided to give you the top spot, largely because of the amazing production and compositional values present here. It was just fantastic. Incredible work!

Coloradoweeks - You said that i was gonna make you cry when i posted my heartfelt speech about you guys and the compo itself. Well you're wrong, because this is gonna make me cry. Loosing a loved one sucks, especially if you've been close for this long. My condolences for your loss, the lyrics are very heartfelt and moving. Great chords, i feel like we have a bit of a Sex Pistols kind of chord progression, but with a Kinks and or Ramones feel. Singing is incredible as always. Some cool spices thrown in, it makes for some pretty great changes. It's not an aggressive piece, despite the style, but it is very catchy either way. The mix is lovely, and the guitar work is lovely also. This is just extremely sick stuff, i so wish i could have voted for this, but i can only choose 3. It's hard to limit to just 3, it really is. This was so much voting worthy, amazing work!

Starla - Starla going the EDM route, in what sounds like a cool blend of trance music and maybe house. I don't know, it's definately got more of a techno feel to this one than the other tracks you've done. The synths are very oldschool, i totally feel like i'm back in the 90's. It does get a bit much, resulting in the rest of the drums being masked by the thick trance synths, however i know trance music is all about the synths, so maybe it's more of a stylistic thing. It's not often that we hear Starla going instrumental, but it's pretty great. I know OHC isn't the arbiter of quality, and a fair number of my entries aren't as good as this, but i do sense potential here. Maybe a thicker kick, maybe less distortion on the synths, it's pretty great. Still a lot of fun though, good job!

Misael.K - I'm loving those piano chords (But then again, you do make some sick progressions), and that beat is thick, especially for an acoustic kick. It doesn't feel like it's a live kit, but rather you played drums on a keyboard or something (Just me). The singing is pretty epic, especially the harmonisation in parts (Sounds like formant shifting). I wasn't expecting falsetto in this, but damn, you really are killing it with the voice. Solo is pretty epic too. If you really want to take this up an edge, i would introduce a bassline of some sort, maybe blend the vocals and piano a bit more to make it a little more coherent, but aside from that this was just, honestly lovely. It's just an extremely catchy piece, with some seriously sick chords. I'm so sad i can't vote for this one, because i only have 3 spots available. Picking 3 was just a nightmare. This was just amazing stuff. Amazing work!

JH Sounds - Alright last one, this round was pretty hefty in the entries. In My Life is not the most technical of Beatles, but it's definately got a lot of emotional resonance, and can be suited for a lot of things. Brave of you to finally tackle this after so long, you can tick it off your bucket list. I'm no singer, so any Beatles cover is already a step above me. This one seems slower than the original, so there is definately an emphasis on emotion here than the original. Singing is really lovely here, you've manage to nail the lyrical content. I also love the quality of the piano, the app you're using is really great for this. Honestly i don't have anything else to say, this was just a top notch cover, and a perfect way to finish off the party. After so much delegating (I had to sift through 10 entries, believe me), i choose this for the 3rd spot, because it just felt to fitting to both the theme and the round number in itself. It was awesome. Incredible work!

Top 3 - Suzumebachi, A2Z, JH Sounds.

Don't even ask about choosing 3 entries, because it was borderline impossible. There's like 6 entries along that deserve to be on the list. So my final ranking could really go either way (That's including those that didn't make the cut). Thanks for a fun 800th round, see you on the flipside!

These entries are incredible and deserve to be on the list. There's so many to choose from, it's extremely hard :(

cotmm68030 (This one was quite beautiful to be honest. Definately worth voting for)

DarkShadow (Best DarkShadow entry...probably ever to be frank. Would have loved to vote for this one)

DDRKirby(ISQ) (Another voting worthy track)

Dex (Another sick track worth voting on)

NickC (Despite my mild critiques, it grew on me quite a bit. Definately voting worthy)

Coloradoweeks (So sad this can't be on, especially since it's a very heartfelt tribute, but picking only 3 is just hard. So sorry)

Misael.K (Another amazing one deprived of it's potential voting spot. Damn)

bjkmenu: This one definitely gets the "Spirit of OHC800" award. Instantly brought a smile and some chuckles when I heard it, props on the improv. Beats out a lot of mainstream song lyrics these days, let me tell you! Great sound design, guitar riffs, lyrics, all of it! Awesome production!

DDRKirby: What a fantastic sequel! As your #600 entry was such a memorable banger(that I still go back and listen to now and again), this one definitely brought back that same feeling. The sheer energy and depth is immense, there is a lot going on here! Another badass entry for the books!

nukage - There was a certain indescribable feeling the first time that bass dropped. It was clean to perfection! And then the song continued to evolve from there, with a well-timed ebb and flow. The highs and lows worked very well together. Very nice sound production!
