"I chose a song from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Undefeated Heart. Tactics Advance was a big part of my childhood gaming, I spent dozens of hours on the spin off game and fondly remember the playful OST. My siblings and I used to joke that the fight music sounded too goofy to battle to, but it all contains some of the signature grandeur of the legendary FF series. This track still has a playful vibe to me, but some resolute heroism as well. I bet we'll get some great compositions with this piece!"

It has only been a few weeks since I have accomplished my dream of building out a home recording studio, and during the process I was most excited about getting into the VGRemix scene. I have followed OCRemix since probably 2001 or 2002, and I'd consider it a huge factor in my decision to ultimately study music! Still dusting off my studio chops, tackling this remix was great practice!
Knowing that this is a battle song in FFTA, I wanted to recreate a version that felt a bit more like an intense battle than the original. Upped the tempo, programming high energy drums, electric guitars, just to name a few methods to accomplish this. I just purchased a parts-caster off of craigslist (Strat Neck and Tele body), and this competition the perfect opportunity to test it out! I recorded the melodies, and one of my best friends, Jake, laid down a gnarly guitar solo, and also some tenor sax toward the end. In order to keep a somewhat orchestral feel, a flute and mallets play a prominent role, and a subtle horn pad lies underneath.
I chose to end the song with the victory theme from FFTA--though I think I only got the arpeggio half right, I still love how it sounds. Enjoy!

I am ex-metalhead looking for something new, and finally i found this community and try new creativity in music. :)
Never try myself in electronic genre, would be glad to any criticism.
I originally planned to remix something similar to the Faster Than Light ost or some of space/sci-fi music, but my work with synthesizers is poor now.
In the end I was looking for something suitable for me from the presets and I think that it turned out even better than I expected.

Some times, I need to do rich orchestral strings. And some metal tuned perc and other things. The dynamics aren't what I'd like 'em to be, but the ideas are there.
My take on this is inspired by the main character of the game, Marche. Transported into a fantastic world where he is suddenly capable and important, he has the strength to see it for the fiction it is and desire to return home, even if it means dragging his friends and family back there too. But the lessons they all brought back with them made the real world so much more than the fantasy.
There is a saying in the world of Ivalice, "The Nubswood is still quite regal compared to Jagd Dorsa, and nowhere near as groovy."
Just wanted to make something fun and lighthearted
This remix is split into 2 parts, both held together by a transition. The first part follows the original arrangement, albeit with synthesizers rather than orchestral sounds, since i don't have the tools to do so (Nor the space). It still retains the marching drums, and the cheery tune. The second half goes in a 180 direction, turning the uplifting tune into a dance track, complete with thick punchy beats, piano stabs, and juicy basslines. The melody is retained, but the remaining elements have been replaced with more synth heavy/dance beats. This is also where the arrangements comes to life, as this is the climax of the whole piece. The ending slows it down for the final chord.
I love this source, as i do with a lot of VGM, but i'm not well versed in constructing realistic sounding Orchestral music, so this is more geared toward electronica, and honestly i think it sounds great. I hope you also enjoy this arrangement.

I wanted to give this my favored orchestral-rock treatment to get a grand, heroic vibe fit to wage some clan wars. I tried paying closer attention to the orchestral instruments to get them more balanced and clear.
The main melody is cycled through brass, woodwinds, and guitar in an effort to keep variety in the different sections of the song. Strings are primarily taking the flighty accompaniment or chords. Rhythm guitar takes a lot of the bass line, sometimes joined by the cellos or tubens. And choirs join to add emphasis on my favorite parts.
I got a little distracted from this project due to work and other priorities, but feel pretty good about this composition in general.
