NPD: Nice production, chill ambiance. The two sources flow well together.

Chalis: Fair production, overall good pacing and arrangement, but there was a pretty dead section in the middle. Drums got awkward in places, especially during Dreamer.

Bundeslang: What is this loudness and crackling I don't even.

scm: Shallow soundscape, clashing notes. You missed out on the free points for the name, too.

Supercoolmike - I like the switch between the sources, it is very natural. I like the balance between the drums and the main samples.
NinjaPenguinDan - The strings on the background fit very well in this song. There's a nice slow-down of the sources (or not-speed up)
Chalis - For some reason, the built-up from this song sounded a lot like the way I did it in the beginning, but only the sources were reversed. This song is a lot more relaxing as my version. The sources are remixed in a different way, but still it is a nice mix. I also liked the last part.

(I just voted the normal way, so I did not give away only the 1st place to lower the chance that I get the last place). I liked all songs so it wouldn't be fair to give only one song a score.

Now let's see if ThaSauce can handle with Pi.

Chalis, you have some nice melodic ideas here. The sources are tied together pretty well, and it definitely succeeds at the “Nitro” feel. I have two suggestions for you, though. First, I think the EQ’s a bit off. It seems to me like it needs a bit more in the low end, but I’m no expert, so you might want to get a second opinion. Second, I think the drums might be a bit too fast in certain spots. I mean, the current pace works fine in some areas, but I might suggest slowing them down to half speed for… oh, the first 25ish seconds? Plus maybe some other spots, but that's really up to you. Adding some rhythmic variation can often help make a song more interesting. All in all, good work!

Bundeslang, there’s too much clipping. The song is so loud that it’s being distorted. While some distortion (when it’s done intentionally and for a specific creative effect) is alright, this is just too much. I mean, I think your song has a lot of potential and creativity, but the excess clipping is really hurting it. With that being said, there’s some good stuff here. The drums are varied, you made the sources work well together, and the synth sounds are pretty cool. If I may make a suggestion, I’d like to see you experiment with pitch bending and note slides sometime. This song works well enough without it, but it’d be an interesting experiment.

Supercoolmike, nice work! You did pretty well with the “dream” feel you were going for, and you used the sources in some interesting ways. I have a few comments, though. first off, from about 0:45 to 1:13, there are several notes that just sound off. There’s some dissonance that, while an interesting creative choice, doesn’t particularly click with me. It’s that not-quite-a-piano instrument that you introduce at the very beginning. Second, the transition at 1:30 seems a touch off. The two parts don’t share enough elements (whether that’s a particular instrument or merely a melody) to really make it work smoothly. Finally, the lead synth at 1:45 seems a bit too loud. You might want to bring it down just a little. Overall, though, you’ve done well. Keep writing!

NinjaPenguinDan, your song is terrible and you should be shot. -3/10, would make ears bleed again. :P

Chalis - Your kick (and the main drums that follow it) are a bit on the dry side; a touch of reverb would have helped with that. I liked the breakdown at around 1:40. I can see what you were going for with trying to match the drum pattern to the lead synth but it came across as a little forced. Overall though a solid track.

bundeslang - Wow that's a LOT of distortion on the drums there, can't say I'm a fan of that to be honest. The drum patterns themselves fit well with the melody though. It's really hard to comment on the leads and stuff as the distortion tends to drown everything else out.

supercoolmike - A very chilled out interpretation with this one, the sources transition nicely. I like your choice of leads and understated percussion. Bass could have used a bit more meat to it though.

NinjaPenguinDan - Nice atmospheric intro; when the source comes in it does so very sublty and naturally. The transition between sources is handled very well. I like the drum patterns but I'm not a huge fan of the snare sound used; it felt a bit flat compared to everything else goign on in the soundscape. Excellent submission though.

I felt like Ninja Penguin Dan had the best integration and track cohesion, even it was a more loose interpretation of Dreamer with the changing rhythm of the riff.
All three of the other entries had difficulty transition from Nitro Man into Dreamer, but Supercoolmike had the most fluid transition from Dreamer back to Nitro Man.

Chalis - An overall enjoyable mix to listen to. And ya, Since the midi's were in such different tempo's and time signatures, one song was going to remain as the overall Meta. Its a hard experimentation but a great way to gain more experience between the 2 pieces.

Bundeslang - Alot like Chalis when the piece is representing Dreamer as the main focus was on Nitro Man. Were you in a rush when mixing? I have to really cut my volume in half just to not blow them out. It sounds decent when nitro man stage is in the limelight, but its very overlooked.

NinjaPenguinDan - Like the overall atmosphere for this piece and I like the song more when the drums come in about the half way point. Only issue for me are the crashes from the cymbals, I get u were trying to keep them tamed to keep the song flowing smoothly and not to abrupt it. However it feels like there sounds were filtered so much that they almost sound distorted. Other than that, Its very relaxing and could chill with it.
