TheVideoGamer - What i did for this one is that i decided to create 9 drum patterns, each different, and each following the time signature of it's respective number. So if it's a number 3, it would be 3/4. If it were the number 7, it would be 7/4. Each number obviously comes from the 9 nine digits used in PI, just like you would with 9 digits in any number. The drum patterns only use 3 drum sounds, which is the kick, the snare and hi-hat. The number 0 is represented by a vocal one shot, saying the word GO, which i processed with reverb and delay, and conformed to a bar of 4/4, obviously because 0/4 is not a time signature. Once each pattern is created, the drums then cycle through as many digits as PI as 6 minutes would allow me, thus portraying a literal musical example of PI. Creativity is fun eh? So essentially i've assigned each Digit a drum pattern and a time signature, allowing for some interesting semi-glitchy drums. In terms of melodies and the like, they all conform to mostly 4/4. The chord progression and bassline follow essentially 16 bars per chord. The rest of the track involves one shot melodic licks, that don't really conform to any bar as such, and will play at random, to keep the track from being very repetitive. Lastly i threw in the infamous ASDF Movie quote, because it works for this theme. All in all, this is not only a unique styled piece, but i really tried to literally capture the spirit of PI in this track. Glad you liked it, thanks!
DarkShadow - Ooh interesting idea, i see a lot of people are using the concept of Pi in their music, which is a good thing, as it can really make a track more experimental which i find very cool. The chords are interesting, especially based on what you chose for Pi. The time signatures are crazy, it really goes so well with the theme of PI. The only thing that gets me, is the nonstop synth chords, i like the idea, but i feel there's perhaps a bit too much dissonance at times, and when it's played nonstop, it can...be a bit much. It's nice don't get me wrong, and i love what you've done here as an idea, but it's personally not my favourite from you. Good job though!
cotmm68030 - Granular delays! This is full on texture i really dig it! It has an ocean vibe despite it being white noise and pads, i feel like were on the seafront at night. I do wish the chords were stronger, the white noise is overtaking everything, and so it doesn't feel as calm as it could be. I know white noise is a great tactic for sleeping, but it does reduce some of the melody ideas, especially since all i hear in some parts is straight up white noise. Sometimes i check the chat to see if there's context i've missed, and it seems to be both inspired by the movie Pi (Damn that ost still slaps), and was a 30 minute rush-job, which i can see why. If this wasn't saturated in intense white noise, and the pads were amplified this would be awesome to be honest, and relaxing. Still though, this was a ton of fun, i enjoyed it either way, good job!
BJKMenu - I don't mind random at all if it works, and so far this is very dope! Sick chord progression, and synth work, it feels like a classic 70's piece but done with EDM synths, this is great. The melody is suprisingly fire as hell too, it sounds like a saxophone yet it's an electric guitar. Some parts could do with a little quantisation, and some of the random switchups caught me off guard, but still this is pretty dope! Ending....was amusing i must say. I feel if it was a little more structure, i would definately be giving you this one, but aside from that, a ton of fun, good job!
Lunarice - Woah orchestral drums. These beats are intense, not expecting this from you. The beat was cool, it was kind of an odd intro into a solo beat, but that's the beauty of this compo, is having some weird and wonderful ideas. I do like the different drum changes here, being broken up by a single dubstep growl, it's really interesting. This is like the circle of fifths but for drums lol. At first i was kind of longing for a melody or progression, but then i though, nah it just needs a bit more finessing, because at the moment, i feel we have something, but it's being put down by the abruptly loud dubstep growl, the loud sound at the end, that confused me, and the great intro that never returns. Put it simply, i love this idea and definately feel you could take this further, good job!
Updlate - Sweet tremolo synths, this is kind of relaxing not gonna lie, even though it's an EDM piece. The way the drums come in is sick, it feels really pumping. The chord choices here are also lovely, i feel like in space. I will say though, this is very compressed, and kind of quiet (I know mixing isn't easy, i fail to do it ever yweek lol). As an idea, it's awesome, you managed to really peak my interest with the many different synth ideas here, and sick chords. I was expecting more chill, but the hyped up EDM also works. If you had more time for mixing, this could be awesome, i definately feel a lot of potential here, good job!
Cerfeuil - I'd hardly consider 1:17 short my man haha. Maybe 30 seconds, but not this. I'm loving this chiptune vibe, it's got some really weird but sick melody and arp ideas. Quite fast, even though you could argue this is more like 110bpm. The arps really fit the theme super well, i'm in a boss battle or something, about to complete the game. Despite it being a bit on the loopy side, you managed to provide me with enough elements to keep me engaged, so repetition is perfect there. The ending really is all that "bothers" me, in that it's quite loud especially compared to the rest. It does have a lot of potential, you did great, especially to submit in such short notice. Good job!
Wassup Thunder - Lovely Arps, i think you made them Pi style right? Or am i thinking of something else? The piano is really pretty, it adds to the space charm this piece has, it's sick. I wasn't expecting EDM from you, usually you go much faster with a more eurobeat edge, so this is different. Track is quite aggressive, and perhaps a little loud. But whilst it's not a quiet entry (Maybe too much), it does not lack in terms of composition, this is sick. I love the melody and chords presented here, and the synth string sounds in this really make it semi-cinematic, whilst keeping the electronic fare. I love how the arp develops in this, it keeps on going, but it doesn't get boring. Really the mixing is all that needs improving on, to avoid it being a bit loud, close to distortion. However i feel the composition makes up for the mix, and that was enough for me to give you this one, it really was dope! Well done!
Misael.K - A long on from Misael, i'm definately up for that! The drums are insane, the most unique Misael drums to date. It's a classic breakbeat, mangled with some interesting almost granular stuff, i don't know what it is, but it's a seriously good effect. Loving the synth work here, it's a mix of a 303 and a space arp. I've noticed that this track seems to be circular, it's clearly obviously taken from the circle of 5ths, which is perfectly reasonable, especially since it's Pi. I do also really love the timing on the arps. Sometimes it's on beat, sometimes it's off, it's like a Steve Reich phase almost. Drums aren't super loud to be honest, but they don't really need to make a statement, however saying that, it does change in the middle, resulting in a more synthwave beat, so i kind of take that back lol. This is some seriously good stuff, it's a concept, but done extremely well, not once am i bored or tired, and you keep things going for it's runtime. I also love the small details being added. Yeah this is just awesome stuff, so awesome i placed it 3rd. Amazing work!
LillyMeadows - I'm liking this groove, that bassline is very dynamic. Lots of cool rolls going on. Not sure if it's a realistic bassline, but not all tracks need to be realistic lol. The groove is very catchy here, even if it's not a melodic piece by any stretch, although saying that i kind of expected a chord progression here and not just drums, but i guess that's just me. Mixing is super strong here, although there were one or two parts that i felt were a little too crispy for my liking. Definately a lot of potential here, so don't be discouraged, i liked it a lot. Good job!
Coloradoweeks - Ooh you also used Pi in your music. Whereas i did a drum beat, you chose to use chords instead, this is neat. I always love your synth sounds, it's super pretty, and 80's style. I'm not sure if i hear the Pi progression, however based on how it's played, i don't think i'll be able to identify it very well. But forget the Pi relevancy, this is absolutely beautiful. Man you really know you're chords, this is awesome. The double time part, honestly kind of took me out of it. Don't get me wrong it's still incredible, i just felt the first part more, and could have easily had it as straight up ambient music, but i'll also accept the double time drums as well, they still made the track regardless Seriously though, this was just amazing, definately great interpretation of the theme, in fact it was soo good i put you on the top spot, incredible work!
NickC - More pretty chords wow. I love the distorted sine wave effect here, normally that bothers me, but you've done it in a beautiful way, that it detracts from the bad stuff. The melody in this is soo lovely, it's super peaceful and pretty. DnB drums were not expected, but absolutely worth it, this is super calming, i feel like i'm in a trance. It's also at the moment the most consonant NickC entry to date lol. This is just beautiful stuff, i really don't have anything else to say but wow. The mixing is extremely solid, and the hyper drums add a lot to this piece. It's seriously just absolutely fire! So fire i decided to give it the 2nd spot, incredible work!
Arcana - Moody chords, this is really smooth. I feel like i'm being serenade by Arcana, even though it's not RnB lol. I do love the background stuff a lot, but alas i think your voice is quite loud in this, i'm sorry. The rest of the track is getting absolutely destroyed by your vocals, which is a shame as you made a catchy backing track. The track has a lot of potential here, it could be something awesome. Good job!
