Because i replied to the comments in the discord, this section is not necessary, so on to the actual voting!
TheVideoGamer - This track is a special one, as nearly all of the sounds feature come directly from OHC entries. I took small snippets from many entries throughout the compo, and made a nice chill techno beat out of it. The samples were small, so it did end up being a challenge for people to identify, especially since i made it a game where people had to guess the sample used. Luckily though i gave the answers at the end, so nothing was redundant. Even if i didn't make it into a game, it was still a fun exercise to try and work with material i didn't come up with, to make something completely different, and since a lot of you make music in completely different styles, it became a mismatch of cool ideas. The track is basically different sections, with different samples each from the 10 OHC entries, blended so it all remains cohesive. The ending is long, because i wanted to reserve some room to announce the answers. That's all, glad you liked it!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - So this is a premade beat? I'm not sure is this is allowed since you didn't follow OHC guidelines? I hope i'm not offending anyone, but i remember i got done for this once, so i'm a bit on the sceptical side. In regards to the beat, it's pretty lovely, got some really nice melodies, great eastern styled harmonies, and nice laidback grooves. It's lovely, if not made in the time slot. Well done!
Draconiator - I've tried Riffusion once, and man for me it was super laggy! I know it's supposed to be new AI technology, so good on them for trying, but it was enough for me to turn it off. The results generated is pretty i will say, very warm and inviting, however i'm not sure which is your creation and which is AI. I'm potentially worried this is mostly AI's doing, which to me isn't really you making something, and potential becomes closer to uploading somebody's else music. I mean don't get me wrong it sounds lovely, but i look for what people have done in an hour, and i feel like using a machine to make a beat for you....it has it's limits. Sorry if that upsets you, good job though!
Lyra_183 - Great singing, and also great percussion. It's like a perfect demo for someone to add a beat to it. There is a large spike in the audio, where it sadly get's a bit too loud and clipped. You might want to turn the gain down a little. Great fun though, lovely singing, good job!
Atmospherium - 10 out of 10 for that title man, wow lol. This is very choppy, like it sounds like a dodgy audio file, which is 100 percent deliberate, and i'm all for. There is nothing wrong with experimentation like that, i love it when they're new things being introduced as an element of surprise. The choppy audio is very rhymical too, sounds like a beat on it's own. The detune was super off putting at first, but i've kind of gotten drawn into it, who knows. I'm not sure where it's going to, i feel like you have an idea, and you are potentially bleeding it dry, instead of expanding upon it, and making something out of it. I got the idea in the first minute or so, and then i felt like there was something missing, potentially lacking. Has a lot of potential it's super cool and experimental. That ending was great, good job!
DarkShadow - Broken computer noises! I can never always tell if it's 5/4, or 3.141592654/4 lol. There is so much saw waves it really plays with my brain. It's also the candidate for the world's shortest DarkShadow entry. I love you man, but i need substance! Good job though!
Koekepan - Really liking the rhythms in the blips and bloops, sounds like a dance track placed underwater. I am ferociously bopping my head as we speak. The Riser FX did make me jump out of my skin a little, i feel like there is also a bit of a push and shove in regards to the mixing. Maybe the sidechain is a little too hot right now, or maybe the reverb is a little too aggressive (A comment i shouldn't be saying, as i overdo the reverb in nearly every track lol, it's such a bad habit). The chords are delightful in this, but the kick is a bit...head pounding. Really to simplify it all, a little mixing goes a long way. If this was fine tuned, this would be a much higher rating. At the moment i like the sounds a lot, and i do feel potential here. Good job!
Souperion - Soundfont represent! Even though this was made out of GBA stuff, it sounds rather clean and high quality. The melody was catchy, and the chords were also lovely. The mixing is a little off personally, the drums need to come up, and the bassline could be thickened a little. However the idea was great, i enjoyed it. Good job!
cotmm68030 - No 6 minutes? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE REAL COTMM!? You probably wanted to go all out for this piece, hence why it probably took you the time to make this one, hence the length. The noise in this one is pretty great, totally has a Merzbow meets almost...Dark Ambient edge? I don't know any other artist to compare it to....maybe coil? It's pretty well developed for this piece, sounds like you recorded a few sounds, and then just went to town processing them. The sad thing about your description is that this for me is an absolute must in the realm of 6 minutes. 3 minutes and i was like "Wait were done? That it?". This is actually pretty amazing sound design, even if it's not meant for accessibility, i still mark it down, if i got something out of it that surprised me, or took me aback. Experimenting for the sake of experimental is one thing, but to take it places and really sell this unique experience, that's what makes the magic for me. So whilst i feel like this could be longer, maybe more fleshed out, i'm still gonna give you this, because the original idea was top notch. Awesome work!
Greendjssa - Ooh these mallets has a very retro VGM sound feel to them. Very ringy, and has a lot of decay and release. The rest of the elements unfortunately fail to match to the level of intensity the bell sounds bring, however they do add a lot that the original wouldn't be able to do on it's own. The mix is very lo-fi and i'm not sure if it's intentional, maybe you were trying to sound like it came from a vintage speaker maybe? I don't know, but it does feel a little...interesting in regards to the mix. The melodies and the overall idea was pretty awesome actually, but with a few extra steps, i feel we could really make this awesome. Good job!
Nukage - This is not a typical Nukage track....hmmm. Great techno beats, really liking the grooves here. Sounds like it's 100 percent a live jam. The bassline that comes in is quite satisfying, although i personally felt you went a little too long on the intro for my liking (If were being a bit technical, doesn't negate the performance at all). The modulations on the bassline is pretty...awesome actually, it really changes the dynamic of the piece, just by turning a single knob. The melody riff is also cool too, goes between tonal and atonal again through the turn of a knob. Almost like some FM filter maybe. Now the question is....is this enough for me to warrant continuously repeat or enough to be considered for the awesome section? Sadly no, as i feel i get educational value out of this, rather than musical value. But that being said, i am drawn to the technical aspect of this, rather than the overall melodies persay. The music is surprisingly catchy, but again i'm into the technicality, rather than the straight up enjoyability. Delegated for quite some time, and in the end...you were close but sadly not enough for the awesome section, i'm sorry. Good job though!
Coloradoweeks - That beat feels very Daft Punk. Like Short Circuit, but if it was made for the Random Access Memories album. The vocal work is awesome in this... but then again this is Coloradoweeks, your singing never disappoints. The backing is super funky, great harmonies, lovely synth arps. It is perhaps, maybe a little too bass heavy (From the basslines), but that is being a little nitpicky. Still loved this a lot, awesome work!
Dex - Loving the drums in this, totally feels like were setting ourselves up for some sick metal. Great pads, adds a touch of atmospheric flair to the whole thing. Makes it a lot more ambient than it really is. I love the riff's in this, it's a little less common than your average rock riff, but feels like it blends the atmospheric parts, and makes a justification for it's punchy rock beats. It's very chilly, but whilst still retaining a lovely punchy edge to the sound. The breakdown is a lovely touch too. The way it drops into the electric guitar was very hype too. Loved this one, a lovely fine Dex entry, Awesome work!
obScene - The return of the Industrial Cinematic master is here. Such a cool fusion of styles, that probably only you make that i am aware of. The melody is really whiny in a lovely way, totally sounds like it takes inspiration from G-Funk haha. This track also has a lot of cool chiptune elements, whilst still retaining the cinematic background. You see this is why i really love your stuff, your genre fusions still manage to keep the integrity of both genres you emulate. Like i really hear Chiptune and Industrial and Cinematic elements in there. Even with it's very hard hitting melody sounds, it still sounds super smooth and chill. The melodies are extremely catchy in this, super hummable, so hummable i gave it the 2nd spot. Incredible work!
A2Z - And now possibly the first and maybe only chill entry we've had so far on this list lol. And i mean pure chill, so not mixed with fast beats or anything crazy. I mean it still has a groovy beat, but it's soft and relaxing, and not punchy or anything like that. Not dissing any others, it's purely a stylistic change, nothing else. The track is quite short. When we get to the meat of the piece, you make it last for about 15 seconds, and then the fade out. Which is personally a huge disservice as this chord progression and melody is....beautiful. It's a pretty awesome idea, that is needing so much expansion, it's lovely. However it is short, which is a shame. Awesome work though!
Wassup Thunder - More soundfont material! Did you share soundfonts with Souperion or something? The melodies are also very catchy here, but this time the drums are quite powerful, and perfectly mixes with the melodies. Possibly not theme fitting, but it was so much fun, it's just a lovely piece with a great melody and chord progression. I mean it still needs fine tuning, to perfect it, as this one does have a bit of compression in this, however it wasn't all bad, because again the melodies are just catchy. Good job!
Arcana - Ooh cool chords, kind of sounds like were underwater. The vocals are great, but i'm not sure if it's muffled? Maybe it's me. The idea is great, i do like the atmospheric parts, feels semi-cinematic. The idea does have a lot of potential here, as i feel like there could be a few more ideas, and you do feel like you are struggling to keep up with the tempo, because towards the end, i sense a bit of flagging. Some notes felt a bit out of touch at first, maybe dissonant, but when it blends with the piano and voice, it softens it a bit. All in all, has a lot of potential, good job!
NickC - Oh god why does this remind me of something? No not Stardew Valley lol. But it reminds me of some kind of RPG game or something. It's on the tip of my tongue and i can't remember it, it's annoying. On a music related note, this is lovely, very child like, very cold but also surprises me with some cool chord switches. It sounds jazzy in some parts even though it's not jazz. I just love it when you add those seasonings, that i know just does not work, yet it absolutely does. The chords really improves this track, really makes it very wintery sounding. On a more nitpicky note (Like very nitpicky), i feel this is rife for a full on epic orchestral climax, but as it's stand, it's a lovely beautiful piece, with a lot of lovely mallet sounds. Super beautiful, ton of fun, enough for the 3rd spot, Amazing work!
Misael.K - I love the laidback beats you do, it doesn't sound like it's on beat, yet it is. The chords are very pretty, and also has a perfect balance of being cold, but maybe warm at the same time? The bassline really kicks things up a notch, turning it from a semi chill beat into a super funky one. The beats are so laid back, it's close to falling off the grid. It just keeps developing each minute, and i love it. The melody is potentially at the background, however in this case, i feel it's needed, as it works for the idea. Perfect representation of the theme, so much so i gave it the top spot, it was that good. Incredible work!
mcmiagblackmanisgod - Great drum beats, it's got some really cool phasing effects, maybe even some stereo effects. Besides the vocal sample used, and the sadly awkward tempo matching in the sample, there's no substance here, other than a phased beat. Sorry i offended you, but i feel like i need more than a 50 second phased hip-hop beat. I checked the comments for this track (It helps me decide the final outcome) and even you don't like it, so that helps lol. Good job though!
Ramaniscence (Wait really?) - Am i really reading this right? You actually took the time to submit a piece for OHC? I mean i saw the whole Private Compo thing, which as you know i'm a huge sucker for, but was this a tactic or trick to advertise the monthly compo? It seems super sus that this week of all weeks you would submit a tune....and even have the audacity to go 12 minutes over the length. Like you are engaged to the organiser of this compo, and you can't even respect the rules....for shame haha! No but let's put jokes aside, and review this unique telling of Rapunzel. Now i'm only going to look at what's submitted, as it's the fair way to look at things, however i am aware you did a full 9 minutes on your soundcloud, so i might check that out later. Now in this version we have Starla playing all the female characters, and i believe Treyt and CotMM is in there to? I think you also performed some characters? I didn't keep up with the chats, i'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention to this lol. Nonetheless this was a super unique idea, that was hugely fun to listen to! It was a great experience, and actually a lovely way to end the compo. Now i'm not sure if the music was made by you, or is this Royality Free music, but you picked super well. I mean i don't necessarily have much to say, because this is just...well produced. This is pretty....amazing actually lol. It really took me by surprise, and i'm all for it. This is an insanely long paragraph, so i'll finish it off with a Awesome work!
Top 3 - Misael.K, obScene, NickC.
Note: My top 3 could have gone in any order, all 3 were amazing. It was what i was feeling at the time.
