I really like Cyan's style a lot, and I have ever since his first few songs on R:TS and I think it REALLY is best suited for THIS kind of song as well, same as his Duck Tales mix.

This epic feel I from Nutritious mix really got me into his song. It's almost as if I become enveloped in the moment, and I could really imagine something like that being in a newer, nicer space shooter, same with NutS.

And I ahve to say andyjayne had be for awhile up until around the middle of his song. Things got kind of confusing and SEEMED to clash a bit to me.

And if I had to make a 4th choice it'd be hbpencil :o, I like his mix a LOT...I just didn't feel is one the BEST

Cyan's fails at getting close to a 70s synth style and instead just comes off as "presety". however! he's got the groove, he's got development and he paints cool colours with his breakbeats and electric pianos and modulated synths. enough to make up for that ill-used Metroid sample.

S|r Nuts brings his recognizable trance flavor and lots of development without wasting much time on the 'DJ margins'. he makes good use of every theme and adapts them without sounding too cookie-cutter. despite the length, it doesn't get uninteresting; though it does lose some steam at points. good work otherwise.

avaris surprised me with a SOLID entry fairly early in the competition. not much to complain about here, i just may have wanted more of it. sounds good, develops nicely, great use of the themes. kudos to you for not trying to tear my ears off with overcompressed mastering. fight the loudness war!

one last mix i'd like to mention is Nutritious'. i really like the harmonic variations and the lush sounds. in numerous contexts that trumpet patch would sound awful but it fits perfectly here. this is what i'd have wanted my original to BE had i a more theatric vision at the time. good job!

and good job to all of you! great turnout, my expectations were exceeded.

Rayza - awful title (but funny at the same time), the rest is great. Vocals are cool... sampled? Production is strong, all-around nice interpretation. I was digging it the whole way through, no substantive complaints here.

Sir Nuts - Trance bias :( But I liked this one too, even despite some more generic sounds. Good production etc. Not quite as tight as Rayza's but still enjoyable.

Cyan - Most excellent 70s/80s-inspired material. Nice references.

hbpencil's was definitely cool, but the recording quality was unhappy face.

No real reason to be honest. All tracks were good. I would have also chosen andyjane with Solar for third place, but oh well. IMO I think all are winners, none real loosers, though I would have put Rayza's and Sir_NutS tracks on the last place, as they're just too cheezy.

Lunacy was definitely a unique take on the source, and I enjoyed the semi-relaxed feeling it had about it. There could have been a little more mastering work to make it really top notch.

Cosmic Drifting made me feel very nostalgic and did a pretty good job incorporating the feel of 'space orchestra' soundtracks for 'B' movies (a few of which I've watched recently). String stabs got a little annoying after a while, but that was part of their odd charm.

Rayza did a great job synching to the vocals. Wish there could have been more variation in the boom-tiss drums.

Cyan - The galaxy is at peace

Voting myself first place feels a bit gay, but well - we are encouraged to do that, ain't we?

Sir_NutS - Stellar Blast

I love this bouncy, pumping club-rendition of the source. Awesome beats. Nice use of noise-effects and good synthwork; I usually dig NutS-stuff.

avaris - Space Parade

Nice minimalistic remix, I like most of the sounds used. The main lead piano wasn't my cup of tea, though. Good stuff.

Rayza - Wasn't fond on this at all, the vocals really made me cringe. The stuff in the background was still pretty enjoyable though very conservative in arrangement. Needs more orchestra hit.

avaris - The arrangement here is really cool but there is some dissonance which I think is pretty out of character for this mix (2:15+) when you try and harmonise the lead with that bell type sound. It sounds as though you have applied an LPF to the bass (probably to get rid of clashing frequencies) and not noticed that it is now not very defined or even audible in parts.

andyjayne - Should definitely have faded in parts better (around 0:08) as it sounds abrupt and pretty bad. From 1:20 onwards is where the track is best. Other issues with arrangement - pretty bland, unoriginal drums, needs more automation, ending comes straight after the main part of the track.

Nutritious - Cool timpani rolls and a nice blend of acoustic and electronic elements. Feels like the source tune is forced over the top when the synths are in the background doing something else but a generally enjoyable piece. It doesn't really go anywhere but it fits the description.

Sir_NutS - The first thing that strikes me about this is the ridiculous loudness -- I know you said you were out of time but I think it would have been safer to have less compression/limiting than make my ears tired and thus make it harder for me to judge the track as a whole (not to mention that it emphasises clashes). The arrangement is the usual Sir NutS style and you've managed to make the source fit that style very well so it's good. There are a lot of different parts and as with the other tracks I enjoy the parts that develop from the string/choir chord progression from the original source the most.

Cyan - For me the vocal sample is the worst part about this and sets off a really bad impression to start off. The track itself is really cool, lots of moving filters and FX. The bass really carries the track. Do I hear a CS-80 (<3) at 2:20? Anyway the only gripes for me other than the vocal sample are the drums, they're very dull when they could be working with the funky bass to provide an awesome groove.

hbpencil - Really cool interpretation, it's a shame about the recording quality - especially where it distorts. This is the most liberal out of the submissions but it is still very obviously based on the source. For me this probably is the most enjoyable as an arrangement, it does still sound like something from a space game of some form although obviously in a different scenario. My main gripes are the recording quality and that you didn't do much with my favourite section of the original.

My choices had either a strong emphasis on the stabs or the melody from the source. Those were the best parts of the source, and the remixer should take full advantage of them IMO. The order of 1-3 was based on how catchy each song was. Basically which mixes made me wanna listen multiple times. Any cool shite the remixer does is always gets them some brownie points in my book too.

The groove on Cyan's mix is just sweet. That old-school warm piano synth is just nice (though it gets limited playing time).

Though made quickly, I like the atmosphere that comes later in Andy's mix, Solar. Has a nice build up throughout also.

sir nut's well developed, not super polished mix down but that's ok.

cyan's expansion and additional bell work made it enjoyable

hbpencil, not bad...probably the most liberal of all the entries though.

In all honesty, I don't have the length enough here, or words descriptive enough to go into it. However, Sir_NutS remix is there because I found it to be very enjoyable, uplifting music to listen to, well thought out, and imaginative. Cyan's remix was definately creative, and very, very chill-tastic. Andyjane's remix is very fascinating to me, it has a lot of great elements, and really captures the feel of space flight all in a neat little package.
