keeping it quick today...
DarkShadow: I'm liking the introduction of melody and consistent harmony. It adds a lot of mood and atmosphere to your music and gives things a more steady feeling. Nice to hear this one
relaxd: Good groove - except for the parts where you play with pitch bends and slides - and then it gets weird. It's actually a cool contrast. I'd consider sticking more to groove in a groovy part, and more to slides for the weird part, before mixing them together from an arrangement point of view. Good work
nukage: Really stellar screams here. Good sound design and good writing. Only thing that I'm noticing is that the annunciation is getting lost in some of the processing. I don't expect to hear annunciation for screaming, but the other parts I think could be more clear but the saturation kinda drowns it out. really killer song though. It slays
VLyrica: Really nice bossa and awesome to hear something different from you all. The part where you all come in with the voice really ties it together. I feel that the high piano part and the high voice kinda overlap too much in the frequency range when they're used together, would be good to reduce the masking and make the vocal come out more. Sounded really good
TVG: This was fun, I liked the punchiness and the bounciness, as well as the chord progressions that hang out in major a lot.
DarkMystery: A slow and tense building track with interesting effects - especially that saturation. I'm curious to see what you will make of this one. It's very textural.
turbo: This was fun. I like that you're branching out to a lot of new things and experimenting. It was dancey and starting to get that Latin pop feeling. Keep up the experiments.
Arcana: This is my song. I wanted to do something more House-style with light voice. I think if I had more time I would have chopped and looped the vocal throughout, but I spent a lot of time deciding on sounds. I didn't do some basic things like add light reverb on the drums for example, so that's why they're so dry.
cyref: Nice piano playing, it sounds really good and the ending shift is really great.

TheVideoGamer - I don't usually make French House here, or to be fair much EDM in general, as that tends to be in the 2HTS compo, and not in OHC. Not out of choice or anything, it just seems to be an unexpected habit. But also in the case of 2HTS, the themes chosen are a little more specific, vs what is a clear image of someone making coffee. The track follows like many French House tracks, complete with manipulated disco samples, and a funky bassline that doesn't feel like it's completely in key, but i took a while trying to get it to fit. I tried to keep as many changes as i could for a genre usually known to be repetitive, and so far the results are good. All in all the mix a tiny bit in your face, and it is long because you know 6 minutes, but the results overall are really nice. Oh well, glad you liked it!
DarkShadow - It's strange listening to what is arguably the most tonal DarkShadow entry in a long time. The chord progression is really good, i'm suprised at how good the progression is, definately got me humming. The mix overall was good, until the middle, when it suddenly got a bit too loud for me, with the additional square chords, however the strength of that chord progression is to be noted, it's great. Lots of potential, good job!
Relax.D - This one is quite fascinating, as it's quite the funky tune, with a sick bassline and tight beat, but yet it's ladened with interesting experimental effects, such as delayed melodies, that don't fall exactly on beat, as well as some intense portamento synths, that don't follow the bassline or drums, yet it all works. Despite it being more of a experimental tune, it just works very well. Not the first thing that comes to mind when i think of coffee, and i felt there's even more potential, but in the end, i found there was more to like than dislike, so i will give you this one. Well done!
Nukage - Not even an intro, just straight into the metal drop. And boy it is a good one this week. You always nail the guitar tones and the drum mixing, it is just fire. I especially love the vocals this week. Don't get me wrong, your vocal work is always fantastic, but this week the growls were just hitting especially hard, and the singing was clear and concise to me. I also really dig the random moments where it was borderline DnB, with some great breaks, definately bringing in the best of both Metal and EDM. Nothing else to say, it was awesome, enough for the 3rd spot, amazing work!
VLyrica - It is a habit that everytime i listen to your music, i am reminded of Japan. I don't know what it is, but it just reminds me of something out of Shibayan Records, but i could sense you were aiming closer to Girl from Ipanema in terms of style. Portugese styled Bossa Nova. Regardless of my weird quirks and comparisons i latch onto, i found the whole thing lovely. Amazing chord progression, lovely singing, and some killer piano licks. Long story short, this was awesome, It was enough for the 2nd spot, amazing work!
DarkMystery727 - I really like the mild spookiness of this. Even though this is straight up ambient, i feel like it's setting me up for a 90's trance vibe, or maybe i'm listening to too much Faithless lol. This is a really nice pad though, it's quite relaxing, with that tiny bit of uncertainty. It just doesn't feel like everything is quite right with the world. Probably not the first though when i see images of coffee or making coffee, but it's a lovely piece all the same. I really dig it, well done!
Turbo852 - I appreciate you submitted even if you only had a short amount of time, and i did like the results here. It had a really nice Latin America feel, with some great trumpet and guitar lines. It has a lot of potential to be something great! Good job!
Arcana - A long one from you, that is suprisingly dynamic. The drum work is awesome, it's a techno beat, but riffed with intricate percussion, it totally gets me in the mood for dancing. On top of that, there is a killer bassline, some sick chords that transport me to space. Space Coffee lol. There is a lot here for 4 minutes too, there's a variety of melody ideas, some great arps, and a overal great mix. The middle part, especially when the vocals come in, was unexpectedly loud, it was kind of a jumpscare for me. But i do appreciate the vocals were clear and sung in key, which is a big plus for me. Honestly it just has potential for me, the whole thing is really good, but amplified to even greater heights with a fair few mixing touches. Lovely idea, good job!
Cryef22 - This is beautiful! Wow this is some amazing melodies. Already when i hit play, i'm greeted with awesomeness. The drums are quiet, but everything else is fire. There is a lovely bell synth in this, that just compliments the melodies so well. It's very peaceful, enough for me to sink into a chair and drink coffee, even though i don't like coffee lol. The ending is wonderful, i dug that major chord finish. It's the melodies in this one for me, even if the track has a bit of potential, the melodies and synth choices just make this one hell of a listen. In fact it was the main reason i chose to put this on the top spot. Excellent work!
