I actually got to partake in the listening party for once, so i don't need to reply to anything! Such is a privilege thanks to DST. Onto the voting!
TheVideoGamer - This one is probably not my strongest i've made, but i did feel like i was trying too hard. The track is an attempt at earthquake shattering DnB. It's not a normal DnB track, but it's more of a beat that really makes you feel like the world is going to end. The arps are deliberately designed to be super fast, almost breaking the speed of sound, and the choir is thick and epic, to compliment the fast paced feel. The breaks are split into 2 layers, both filtered, processed with distortion, and switched with the aid of gross beat to create some fills. The melody is quite dynamic, and spans the whole of the chord sequence (While alone comprises of 30 seconds before each loop), and was really there to make it more of a melodic experience, than just going from chord to chord. After 2 repeats of the progression we move into a few modulations, first going into D, then into A before we break into a breif detour with a more syncopated progression before we immediately go back to C Major with the repeat of the progression. All in all, i felt i went a little too hard on the aggressive side, with maybe a little bit too much layering and compression, but i do dig the melodies a lot here. Oh well glad you liked it anyways!
Wassup Thunder - Bringing on the cyberpunk vibes, except done with a blend of thick orchestral sounds, making this more of a Hans Zimmer hybrid more than anything. The melodies and chord are really nice and catchy, and i really feel like i'm in an epic end of the world/final boss scenario. The guitar parts were great too, didn't cheapen the experience, i really felt like it added more of an edge to the already cyberpunk feel. I do feel it's a bit too intense at times, bordering on too loud, however the strength of the melodies alone is why i decided to give you it, it was just great. Well done!
DarkShadow - Every week you always bring a new time signature to the party lol. I am really liking this kick, it's like a proper techno kick, in the mist of this bassline goodness. The chords are the classic DarkShadow 12 tone feel, and i do feel when they filter, it overtakes the kick a bit, however this one was very rave heavy, and i'm into a lot. With a bit of finnesse and smoothing, this could be awesome, but as it stands it's a lot of fun, and got my head bopping for sure. Good job!
Koekepan - This is one extremely trippy and hypnotic techno number, that sounds like it's drone based, but it's not, and yet i love it. It's a shame it's only two minutes, as i could stand a 6 minute version of this, since i feel the repeititon isn't long enough for this piece lol. No joke this could actually loop a bit more and i wouldn't be mad. The kickdrum is the star, it isn't a melodic piece as such, but i feel like i'm relaxing bopping my head, it works very well. Not everything needs to be melodic, and this is an example of it working so well. Absolutely love this one, so wish it was 6 minutes, but as it stands, it was enough for not only for me to give you this, but to even put it on the top spot, it was that good. Incredible work!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - Another techno banger lol, so far everyone has basically made techno music, except for Wassup's orchestral number. The melodies are very 80's this week, with a mix of funky syncopated chords, and a very HOME style lead synth melody. I just always love your journeys, because there's so much for the length, and it's packed full of some seriously good melodic ideas, and they're always nicely mixed. This is just one of them, the lead melody is really great, and the changes are not cliched or boring. I always find it extremely hard to critique, because there's nothing here that that sticks out, or is just bad. The whole thing is just extremely catchy as hell, so catchy i chose to place it 2nd, it was just lovely. Amazing work!
Nukage - It's not often you hear Nukage put down the Dubs n Wubs and or the amplifier to make something very soulful and indie sounding. It is a rock vibe sure, but the guitars are not overdriven, and work more in a acoustic setting. The vocal work is exceptional as always, even within the processing, and the chords are pretty. I do think you went a little overboard in the mastering, the track doesn't need to be this crispy for what is a slow softer acoustic piece. The track is beautiful though, it just needs to be less aggressive mix wise. Still though, it was beautiful stuff, with potential, good job!
Meistr - I love the vibe of this one, it feels like it belongs to an Anime opener in Japan. The vocal work is exceptional as always, you pick some seriously good singers, and i love the melodic work here, great chords! The drums are nice too, even if not as beefy as a standard DnB drumset, however this one has more of a softer relaxing vibe, so calmer drums are definately needed here. Some parts of the arps are a little out of tune, but that's just a minor gripe, i nitpick a lot. Still though, this one is sick, lovely stuff. Definately voting worthy, awesome work!
Dex - I really dig the mix of punk rock and synths here. It's part Electro, part Punk, yet none of it feels like a gimick, it's just such a catchy tune, with a really great chord progression, and a really killer guitar solo. The mix is also really great, i couldn't find any problems with the mix, it's just a really catchy tune from start to finish. The swelled synths are my favourite in the whole thing, it really makes it pop. Yeah can't say anything else, it's just a lovely tune, definately voting worthy, awesome work!
Arcana - Also went in a similar direction to Wassup's. The beat is really cool, there is some great chord moments at the beginning. It does get a tad bit dissonant towards the end, but the overal melody is really nice. I dig the vocal performance as well, although i think my ears have perfect pitch, because to me it's a tiny bit out of tune (Not too out of tune, but this varies from person to person). The chords at the end are a bit too dissonant, and that's probably the main criticism, as it's just too spicy. However everything else was really nice, the idea is lovely, especially so with a bit of smoothing. Good job!
GLL - That is quite the catchy beat, it sounds like 8-bit hip hop, it bangs hard, but it's not too in your face. Both of you can seriously rap, your flows are excellent. It keeps on beat, and it rhythms very well. I do notice the change in microphones, one is very lo-fi and hollow, and the other is more muffled. The vocal work is awesome, but it does put me off a bit, with such a jarring change of room tone from each one. Mixing is great though, although i do wish the beat could be less repetitive towards the end (The opposite of Koekepan's lol, but there is a legit reason). Still though, this was great, both of you have amazing flows. Good job!
Misael.K - This has to be a coincidence, your idea is almost like mine, except my DnB beat is much more stronger and crispier, whereas yours is more of a light element, as the main parts come from the synths and chords. This is some sick harmony here, it sounds part Jazzy, part electronic. The whole vibe is perfectly suited for a Sonic Racing game, don't know why. The track progresses so nicely, for such a fast pace piece, i really feel the energy, but it's not overbaring or forced, it's just such a pleasent smooth experience. The chords at the end was such a great change in mood. All in all, this one is just killer, nothing bad to say, i absolutely love it. It was so good i placed it third, amazing work!
