Nothing beats that rave. But the dubstep and the industrial fight it hard.

Some unreal tracks with tons of variety and richness. and of course the 808 which basically ensured that we'd all be able to do compo from the comfort of our own homes 30 years later.

TheVideoGamer - Because of the obvious 808 drum machine in the photos, i went for acid house (Although perhaps a little faster than normal, like 10bpm faster), because i felt it was perfect for the theme. More often than not 80's Acid House would have a TR-808 drum machine in it, unless it was something else. Not saying it's in every track, i'm saying more common than you think. The track is basically 808 samples plus a 303 (808 being from a sample pack and the 303 is a VST, which is automated in FL Studio), but i also threw in some chords to keep it from being just that, because it can be seen as repetitive to some, so i kinda wanted to bridge the gap really. It's only 2 chords stretched to 4 bars, both in mallet form and in arp form. Lastly to keep it interesting i threw in some vocal one shots to keep the rave vibe pumping. They come from a Revolution 909 remix. The 808 sounds are all there, and they come from a sample pack, whilst the 303 is a VST clone, which does an extremely good job replicating the sound. All in all, it's not the most complex or technical, but it doesn't need to be. Acid House was all about the groove, and a simple 1 bar acid line with all of the automation is more than good enough. I kind of like it to be fair. Hope you do too!

DarkShadow - I can already tell there's going to be a lot of 808 usage this week, which obviously makes sense given the round were on lol. I do like the filtered synths here, it goes well with the 808 sound. The drums aren't matching to the intensity of the synth work, i think the bass in this belongs to a more harder beat if i have to be honest, but the way you've played the 808 sounds are actually really nice. The filter bassline is also really great too. Definately has a lot of potential for me, i like it. Good job!

Koekepan - Ok now this is more of a 909 sound lol. You've gone forward a 101 rounds haha. I do like the bassline there, it's giving me that 2000's electro RNB sound for some reason. Pussycat Dolls or maybe even Justin Timberlake. I do like the airy pad sounds, keeps it more dreamy sounding, instead of a hard hitting electro beat. The only thing i will say, is that even though the drums are lovely, i do long for a few more 808 styled sounds in there, to keep it not just more on theme, but maybe to accentuate the groove a bit more. However as it stands, it still is quite lovely, so this is more theme relevancy than it is pure enjoyment. This is definately a laidback piece, just sit back and not think about anything. That can probably make it a little repetitive to some, but to me i'm ok with this. 4 minutes is probably the perfect length, as i feel we might overstay our welcome if we kept going. Yeah i like this a lot, definately voting potential here, awesome work!

cotmm68030 - I take it you don't like the 808 drum sound lol. It's ok to be just ambient music, not everything needs a beat. Lots of great tracks have no drums. All jokes aside this is very deep. You say to reject rhythm, but this track clearly has a kick drum and some soft hi-hat rolls. Yeah this is basically 808 drums manipulated to your genre interest. This should be the new trap music haha. Imagine spitting bars to this, but the vocals all distorted and mangled. I do like this to be fair, it has a lot of interesting kick drum qualities to it. It feels like a crushing machine destroying something. You put an orange or an apple in and bam, it's completely destroyed. That's totally how i feel listening to this track. I love the rumbly effect, any more distortion and it will just completely rattle my brain. Not the most melodic, this is definately focused on the drums, but truthfully i like it. I think it's a unique take on the theme, that really goes with the atmosphere, it's sick. Definately voting potential here, awesome work!

THEGREATDESTROYER22 - Sick bass work man, this is totally some 80's styled synthwave stuff. The drums though...my god i wasn't expecting you to push me down with those beats. I don't know if you manipulated some 808's or not, but man this is not only a crispy crunchy beat, but it totally drowns out a lot of the sounds, i think you need to maybe increase some of the bass and synth work to match the intensity of the beat, because it is too in your face for me. Still though everything else was sick, this has a lot of potential here, good job!

DDRKirby(ISQ) - Oh wow you went for some acid like sounds too. Except you've done yours's closer to a breakbeat, where as mine was straight up House/Techno. Of course you couldn't resist adding the ol' DDR one shot, it hypes up the track and makes me ready for a rave. This track is hard hitting, but not too intense, it's really sick. The drums could almost be a modular beat, it's not a classic beat at all. So much funkiness in this, even though the sounds aren't really funk as such. This is one hell of a dance groove, absolutely loving those classic rave stabs, i totally feel the 90's influence here. Nice back and forth with the drums too (4 on the floor to breakbeat style). Really love this a lot. In fact it was so good i placed it on the third spot, amazing work!

Nukage - Uhh that waveform looks interesting. Did you render the whole track correctly? Or am i looking at a tail with a hidden message or something? According to the comments, it appears to be an outtake or something, which is fine, but it did throw me for a bit. Still though the track itself is pretty great, the vocal work is wonderful, i'm not sure who sung it, for all i know it could be a sample or a vocalist, but she works so well in the track. The drop is awesome too, you've managed to make the synths sound like were in a metal band, despite it being more like Dubstep sounding. The only thing i will say is that the track does seem quite compressed. I mean the track could benefit from a volume boost, so there's that, but i think you might have inadvertently added a bit too much compression. I don't know how you do it, but the 2nd drop is soo much harder than the first. Even with all of my slight critiques, i ended up finding much more to like than dislike, so i'll still give you this one, it was lovely. Well done!

obScene - Ooh interesting, i've not heard of this piece, so this is to new to me. The drums sound more like a CR-78 to me than a 808, but maybe it's that bongo sound that catches me. I do love the piano work in conjunction with the drums it's super pretty. I don't know who sung the vocals, but i love them, it really makes the track quite wholesome. I do feel like this was an obScene spin to a classic track or something. The drums could benefit from a slight tone down to allow for the piano to breath a little more, but that's about it. The ending was wonderful, you know how to catch me with these cool cute noodles i love it. Yeah not so much an 808, but extremely catchy nonetheless this was beautiful. So beautiful i decided to place it 2nd. I could have gone for first, but i don't consider this really theme fitting, but that's a minor thing either way. Incredible work!

Cerfueil - Interesting sounds, i really like the soft looped pad, adds a chill element, and the beats are kind of a IDM hybrid. There isn't really chord changes here, it's mostly a single drone chord, for 1 minute, which is fine, not all tracks need to have many chords. Playing 2 chords is perfectly acceptable. The drums are quite varied, there's so many changes going on, we've gone through various patterns throughout this piece. I feel we could go further with a bassline, and sections that removes the chords to keep a bit of the groove further, because by the end i felt like i was missing something, and had to repeat it a few times to truly understand what's going on. The track is lovely don't get me wrong, but i just sense it has a lot of potential here. Good job!

Coloradoweeks - Oh come off it, you've definately messed with that 808 before, it sounds massive. You seriously know what to do, because that 808 sound has definately been treated well. The track is surprisingly very industrial, but i never really hear the same track from you, it's always a different genre, so it's great. I love the dark synth work here, it has a faint 80's sound, but in a modern lens. You've been listening to a lot of CotMM tracks but i am reminded of him. The drums despite the distortion and mixed so well i am impressed! This track is soo good, the vocal style is amazing too, it's soo hard hitting and epic. The singing is amazing as always, but this has been kicked up a notch, i am amazed. I seriously don't know what else to say, this is absolutely sick. I loved this soo much i placed it on the top spot it was just amazing, incredible work!

Misael.K - It's ok mate i don't know what i am doing either lol. I'm just glad my idea sticks, because sometimes i barely even have a good idea as evident by last OHC's entry. I'm loving that bass work, it's got that nice buzz i expect from an oldschool beat. I've noticed a few used a 909 instead of an 808 i find that cool, although this might be all hardware this. I feel like you could be using some kind of 808/909 hybrid clone. That melody is wonderful, i love the synth used, it's pretty dope! The arps aren't on beat as well, it might be a triplet thing going on, it's so great! The pause before the drop was sick too, so many great melody ideas! Even the choir is dope, it has that perfect balance of ravey goodness, and melodic sheen. The drop in the middle, which seems to utilize some kind of soft whompy bass, is very distorted. That bassline is really eating the mix, it makes it harder to hear the other sounds, when the bassline is going at you in a hard way. I can definately tell this is live, because some sounds come in at random points, so it's not drawn or inputted into regions. The pause before the final climax was also great, loved the chord changes so much. I sense so much potential here, especially for smoothing, it's such an amazing idea. Good job!

NickC - Woah that's some cool granular stuff. Nice way to introduce the track. The 808 drums are quite massive, especially for a sound that is known to be more on the lighter side, yet this is super hard hitting! I love the airy synths in this, it totally feels like were in a Doom game, but without the metal elements. The melody is that classic mix of NickC oddities mixed with some airy atmosphere, it's great. You never make it completely tonal, you always like to add 1 or 2 notes to make it more...spicy. Can't forget the classic 808 cowbell at the end, great way to enhance rhythm. I though that was like a breakdown into a next section, but no you decide to end the piece which is a shame. Somehow i was expecting more chords in this, instead of a keyboard like sound creating the overall atmosphere. It doesn't make it thin, but i think the atmosphere could be greatly enhanced from it. Despite that though, there isn't negative to say, it's merely to take it further. I found there was a lot more to like than dislike, it's sick. Awesome work!

Arcana - I don't mind an Arcana instrumental, it's perfectly fine. I do like the deep synths here, very cool textures. Some parts of the hi-hat are filtered into some rather high territories, but it doesn't last too long. The bassline here is very funky, i love that patch! Chord work seems to not match the bassline in regards to the key, but i do like how it's played, it goes great with the groove. Weirdly i feel the drums are setting me up for something harder, but that never comes. The melody in this is very delightful, i love it so much, it's my favourite part about the track. You know if this had harder drums, and maybe a bassline that was more in key, then this would probably even be in the top 2 or 3, it's so good. I has a lot of potential here i really like it! Good job!

mcmiagblackmanisgod - Wow that is one hell of a cut. Not only did you manage to find a great sample, you also topped it with a sick beat, and some seriously good compression. It has that perfect 90's crunch, but not too overbearing. The only downside is, that some sample parts might be unnecessarily distorted, which i think doesn't really compliment the beat too well. Most of it is seriously good, just moments where i felt it could be toned down a tad. At first i thought this wasn't really theme fitting, but then i remembered the 404 in the image, and though sampling is a big part here, so it's fine. The ending really threw me for a loop, what the hell lol. I don't know where you keep finding these samples, but my god it scared the crap out of me. The track is great, but it has a lot of potential here, it's a good idea. Good job!
