@A2Z - I thought Glover was an artist there for a second lol, but it's actually a video game. I've not played the game, but the little dude does seem familiar...
@Arcana - Basslines are always fun when there's acid in them ;)
@Atmospherium - I guess i've accidentally inflicted the funk gene on you lol. Thanks for the love anyways!
@Everyone - Thanks for the kind words! Not many people comment on this one as much as i thought. Oh well....
Now then....
TheVideoGamer - Like a lot of my tracks this is based of a Chord Sequence in Eb Major. Actually 2 sequences that come in and out of each other. Each one containing it's own melody and bassline. The track itself has some kind of structure, but it's mostly one that passes by, with each section coming as planned, rather than out of the blue. The beat is just a breakbeat with distortion, and the rest is mostly Synth 1 stuff. The middle part changes things up into a more happy vibe, but the results are still more or less continuing from the previous ideas. That doesn't mean to say it's bad or boring, but rather keeps the vibe going without it being repetitive or the same. I like this one a lot, and i'm glad for once it's not super loud. It sits right in the mix. Glad you liked it anyways!
DarkShadow - I guess Lyra and CotMM are out this week. It's probably the first i've seen you as the first entry. This is mighty speedy, even if it's half time. It's also very short, and quite all over the place lol. Sorry dude, not my favourite from you. Good job though!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - Ooh liking the noise hits, has that perfect sound effects to a rip roaring fire. Great Reese basslines and DnB breaks. It's got a mix of modern and retro sounds. I love the leads in this, very powerful, but also groovy. Perfect rhythms, nice eastern instrumentation. Second half with the vocals was just awesome....a ton of fun. Awesome work!
Dex - Woah EDM beats? Now that is definately not the Dex i know. This is super chill, and relaxing. Really nice square melody. The chords are happy, but with a hint of energy. Simple but very effective. It can get a little bit loud in some of the melodies unfortunately, especially in the middle. But i did like the idea lot, it was kind of festive, even though Christmas ended ages ago. Good job!
Coloradoweeks - 80's synths strike back. This is one hell of a groove, and i love the chords in this, head bopping stuff. The kick is super tight, and the saxophone melody just sounds very lovely. If anything the sax is way better than what i could do, its....beautiful. Imagine if this had lyrics. Awesome work!
A2Z - Trancey ooo. Nice textured pads, very calm but also very Ferry Corsten sounding. Great Major 7th's here. Kick and snare work is also tight, really liking the beats. Melody was a ton of fun as well. The only thing i will say, as i'm not sure if this should be on the awesome section, is the EDM aspect is undersold in my opinion. If were imitating a full on trance vibe, then the drums will need a bit more compression and umph, maybe a thick bassline and some heavy sidechain on the master, otherwise it sounds a tad bit flat. However you sold me on the rest of the melodies, nor was i fully convinced trance was the style you were aiming for. I'm torn, because the melodies were lovely, yet the mix needs a bit of....a boost, to make it more rave like i suppose. I leant towards the Awesome section because of how good the melody work was here. Sometimes i'll say it needs a bit of tweaking, but still give you it as the overall idea was what sold the piece, and not the techniques used in the creation of the idea if you get me. Well done!
Handknit - Unusual pads. Strange textures in the sounds, the chords are pretty 12 tone like. It's got a very cool but very faint melody. The melody is actually hard to identify at all lol. Well ok towards the end, the melody is very strong, so we go from PPPP to FF in like 1 second lol. Ending was very weird, it's like the melody was sustaining a note on a pitch wheel or something. I'm afraid this is not my cup of tea, as i found the notes a bit too dissonant, and the melody a bit too weird for my tastes, i'm sorry. Good job though!
obScene - Industrial Beats, i'm a fan. Bitcrushed sounds, mixed with some really cool piano arps. It's like Demonic Chiptune if that's a thing. I love how it develops from something hyper percussive and almost noisy, into a full on cinematic but expressive piece. It's slowly building into a symphony of beautiful noisy chiptune ambience. The melodies are just absolutely fire! Whole thing was epic, so epic i picked you for the 3rd spot. Amazing work!
Treyt - Nice guitar work! That is some vocals here, very raw and dirty. The drums belong to some kind of DnB track, but yet it's framing itself as Punk. Now it cuts out after 30 seconds, so my theory is this is not a full render. If it is, then i'm sorry, but this isn't enough for me to digest i'm sorry. So i double checked the Discord, and my theory is proven correct. It's a start of something, but sadly it's a Good Job from me.
Smittysmit - I loved your first entry! You bring your A game in the singing and lyric department, it's super fire! No surprise i love this one too. Expressive and emotional in one package. The mix is pretty great! The bassline is very growly, but it's blurred by some of the vocals, so it sits in this nice comfy spot. The piano work, the vocals, everything about this is just actually exceptionally beautiful. Like this is just incredible singing and lyric writing. It was enough for the top spot, fantastic work!
Atmospherium - Damn Atmospherium bringing the acid! I'm hearing a lot of genres from the most unlikeliest of artists. The sidechain is killer here, and the saw synths are really great. The vocal samples were fine, but i personally wouldn't use them (A bit out of place personally no matter how funny they are lol). The breakdown was tight as hell, sounds like it belongs to some Rock interpretation of Dubstep. This one was just a ton of fun, with the potentially for it to keep going. This could be like a 4 minute piece or something. Despite my titbit about the vox, everything else was lovely, and didn't change my overall opinion of the piece. Super killer production, great dirty acid trance stuff, Awesome work!
HoagieSpirit - Welcome new guy! More crazy vocals! A perfect reminder that i cannot sing. That piano line is super chill and very relaxing. I could drift to sleep with this. Background vocals are lovely. Very wholesome and warm, perfect to just forget about life. Drum work is super lo-fi with great compression. This is an amazing first entry (Compared to my first entry lol) So many awesome entries this week! This round was a great round! Just awesome stuff, well done! Choosing between you and Smittysmit was insanely hard. This was an exceptional first entry. I ended up picking you for the 2nd spot, incredible work!
Misael.K - Really lovely 80's styled pads and synths. Kind of film score-ish, but in a electronic context. The whole thing screams HOME. Super 80's styled synth and beat. Great chords, lovely arps. I dig that melody, great vibrato and gliding motion. Just as i thought it was about to get a lil repetitive, you immediately hit me with the next section. Awesome pads with all the textures, and a lovely distorted borderline industrial beat. The melody is killer, and the synth is delightful. Awesome work!
Christopian - More chill stuff! That is some beautiful synth chords. A lot of 80's inspired pieces this week. Beautiful melody, great chords. More HOME inspiration but with a more EDM type beat. The mix is also really tight as well. It's probably a bit too bass heavy (Went a lil hard on the subs), but the rest is extremely beautiful, really vibrant and just has a lovely slightly warm feel to it. Lovely melody, awesome work!
Arcana - So you made some lyrics, but didn't have time to rehearse it, am i correct in understanding? I like the vocals in this, it's got a lovely reverb tone. I immediately got a whiff of the classic Arcana synth chords. I can sense that there are parts where you mumble a bit, just to get something down, so it seems like you are singing, even if it's not the right lyrics. The drums are very quiet in this, and there are moments where's the vocals are a little loud, but this could be a taste thing. Has a lot of potential for both expansion and mixing, but i did like what i was hearing a lot. Good job!
Top 3 - Smittysmit, HoagieSpirit, obScene.
This was one hell of an awesome round. So many incredible pieces, picking 3 was just a nightmare! This is what i ended up with after so much whittling down.
