@CotMM - It's a Venetian Snares type beat, what do you think lol.
@Misael.K - Absolutely, i felt the chaotic vibe of the images were part and parcel to the genre.
@Misael.K - So basically i'm a derivative of myself lol.
@Mister Fox - Try telling that to Venetian Snares XD.
@Misael.K - That gif is accurate lol.
@Misael.K - Next week i'll make speedcore haha.
@CotMM - Everyone should make a 250bpm piece every now and again lol.
@Misael.K - Well when you're bombarded with soo much speed, it does amplify it a bit more lol
@Everyone - Thanks for the kind words! Quiet week this week.
Now then....
TheVideoGamer - This track is based off a complex drum break made by complex chopping, and from an assistance from a VST, as i don't want to be chopping breaks for 1 hour. I made a 16 bar break loop, then used the VST to finish it off. The melodies are not as complex as the breaks, and are mostly there to make well...melodies. The chords are formed out of pad and string layers, and the bass work is built mostly out of premade sequences, formed in a syncopated pattern to make something very thick and heavy, but with not too much getting in the way. The last part is mostly a slower section but with the main chords. It's a mixture of different chords and notes to make something intense, but atmospheric. Was gonna make it 6 minutes, but i ran out of time, especially since i took the time to chop some breaks in this. All in all i like what i've done here, hope you do too.
Lyra_183 - Wow is that a synth!? That's a big upgrade from what i've heard from you. Great singing, you have nice lyric writing. The synth could have played throughout, it would have sounded awesome. Still enjoyed what i heard though, lovely stuff, good job!
JH Sounds - JH being the 2nd submission!? Say it ain't so! This is completely different from your usual material, and honestly...it's amazing. It's soo different from you, i thought it was an already completed piece ripped from YouTube. Sounds like a Blade Runner cover. A bit too short in my opinion, and honestly hard to tell if this was made in one hour compo, based on what i'm seeing and hearing, but even with that said the idea was soo dope, i feel like i need to give you this one, but at the same time, the dope ass melody and chords is when the piece ends, so unfortunately it's a good job. Sorry dude!
cotmm68030 - 6 minute strikes again. This has some cool textures, sounds like a boiling kettle lol. Would totally see this in a quake or Doom like game. You know when the pads come in, i end up feeling more towards Prince of Persia. The comparisons are quite telling. Towards the 2nd part, it becomes a lot more relaxing, and almost like were underwater. It's very chill, to say this is more texture than melody. Like it's very warm, and kind of like a hug in the mist of a powerful storm. One minute it's chill, next it's tense, but they both have a similar set of ideas. Love this weird blend of sounds, it's pretty awesome. Hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but it's super chill but nerve-racking at the same time. I'm gonna give you this one. In fact i'm gonna give you the 2nd spot, it was soo good. Amazing work!
Koekepan - Is that a tail? Or am i gonna get really quiet music? I like the mix of delayed square waves, and slightly noisy percussive hits. The arp that comes in really turns this piece, from a static repetitive idea, into something exciting. It has a retro NES feel to the sound. The arp doesn't last long though, and not before then, we fade out to pure white noise effects. Ok so i was wrong about the tail, because there is sounds trying to come through, but it's soo faint i had to boost my volume to hear it. I feel like this falls in the category of being too experimental, like it's deliberate, but yet it feels incomplete. If the faint sound wasn't there at the end, i would definately assume it's a tail. My favourite part is the arp, i loved that. Would love if you explored more of that. The rest was good too, if either a bit monotonous, or quiet. Sorry about that. Oh well, good job though!
DarkShadow - Hey the kicks are at a reasonable volume lol. The NES sounds in this one are lovely in this, it has a kind of robotic feel. I don't mean by the virtue of sound, but by the way it's played as a melody. Your tracks are so short, by the time i get into a groove, i'm immediately cut off. I like the sounds, good job!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - Ahh it's been a while since i heard a DDOST lol. Now because this is an OST, i have to dissect each track which i'll do below:
Radiant City (Title)
Not familiar with Lundum Dare, so i'm only going by what's on here. Lovely Synthwave vibes, nailed the snare down, has a pretty arp. Sells me as a kind of dark video game experience. Melody is more of a background element personally, but i loved it nonetheless.
Lasergun Lockdown (Battle)
Now the chiptune part. Can't be DDRKirby without chiptune. The battle theme almost seems a bit like a sped up version of the title theme. The melody is catchy as hell in this one. A bit short, but understandable. It's VGM.
Rainy Alley (Shopkeep)
The atmospheric part. Very calming arps, and a nice mallet sound. Fits perfectly for a cutscene of some sort. Not sure if this fits a shop theme for me, as i find it pretty intense. But it definately works for a cutscene, the melodies are lovely, and the sound design is top notch.
Above the Metropolis (Boss)
The DnB part. Really loving the pads in this, great chord choices. Love how even with the most electronic of pieces, you still sneak in one or 2 chiptune elements. Melody is super catchy, great chords. Again short, but you have a 6 minute limit, which is unfortunate, but nonetheless it still sounds awesome.
Back to the Beginning (Credits)
The ethnic part. All of the tracks have a theme lol. Loving the melody in this, but then again it doesn't take much from you to make a kick-ass melody. The taiko drums really bring the feel of Japan to the piece. Grooves were tight as hell. For an hour i don't think i would have kept up the level of quality you provide, this is seriously strong stuff.
For working with the 6 min rule, and for the concept of speed composing a soundtrack, i'm super impressed. This was just awesome. So awesome i picked you on the top spot! Incredible work!
Nukage - Bring on the nuke pads. Very calming, but has a lovely beat. The trap portion was very sudden, even by Nukage standards lol. The whole thing has a lovely melody and guitar loop. It's like it fits to both a Rapper, a Songwriter and a DJ. Definately sounds live. The array of sounds popping in and out is a lovely touch. Definately a great performance for sure. Enough for the 3rd spot. Awesome work!
Handknit - Interesting lowpass sounds. Reminds me a bit of rhythmical wind. Kind of strange, lots of cool textures. Extremely short, not enough music for me to digest i'm afraid, and that's not even counting the tail lol. Sorry dude, good job!
Dex - I'd say Dex attempts Synth Punk more than EDM. This would totally fit any Science Fiction Fantasy anime. It has the chords and melody down. The bassline is very disco like, but yet played in a Punk Rock setting. The melodies are super tight, and the drum work is super strong. We do cruise along with only 3 chords, so repetition is based on taste. Not as loopy as i thought, but i still feel a bit of variation in the chords could expand on this idea, make it into something grand. You already have an awesome idea though, and even after delegating, i still gave you it, purely because the melody work is strong in this. Well done!
Misael.K - Repetitive eh? I'll be the judge of that lol. Digging the filtered bass synths, half 80's, half modern day EDM. Kick is nice and phat, and the arp work is super strong. Snare completes the beat nicely. The grooves are super strong in this, great sound design, very raw and gritty. There is a lack of a defined melody here, if you want my honest opinion. You relied a little too much on looped riff's to sell the melody per-say. I still like it though. Honestly there isn't much repetition in terms of content. However there is sadly in terms of dynamics. It's a consistent volume throughout, played by a never-ending bassline, and a pulsating kick. Maybe you could break it down, with a melody some chords, and then a snare build-up back into the main beat. Idea has a lot of potential, don't be discouraged. It just needs a lot of dynamics and a bit more of a expressive melody for my tastes. Good job though!
Meistr - Even though it's very late. Like a full day late lol, i'm still giving this the benefit of the doubt, simply because i'm nice. Really digging that melody, super strong, and like a few others on this compo has a chiptune influences. Sick DnB break, really liking the chords a lot. The break is quite loud compared to the rest, and there is sadly little material here to digest, but i had fun with this, good job!
