I think that AintShitJosh had the most interesting take on the whole thing, with a hint at dangerous overtones to the club environment.

CotMM was very atmospheric as well, although he didn't quite grab a knife-like sonic element, in my view.

@Mister Fox:

I gotta ask. Why do you not have the same level of criticism to a CotMM track compared to mine. You always seem to be irritated by my "long" tracks, but not CotMM's or Koekepan's or Xanthos's tracks. I find it to be a double standard, and i'm gonna be honest it pisses me off. CotMM submits a 6 minute piece every week, and sometimes his music can be a little on the repetitive side, but yet that's fine by you. It's ok for you, as you never respond or comment, nor do you take any frustrations with him. No offence to Koekepan, but there are a lot of his tracks, that are quite long, minimalistic with mostly 3 sounds or less, and can sometimes be repetitive. But yet as i've already said, that's fine to you. And even though he doesn't submit 6 minute pieces every week like CotMM, more or less it's somewhat frequent. Why is that? I want to point out also, that even though i sometimes have that criticism, i never flat out say that with the intention to be rude or mean to the user. After all i'm trying to form honest opinions based on what i listen to, from the stuff i know. Every critique from me is coming from good intentions, and never includes any form of harassment. I understand if you don't like it from any user, yet in this case, i've never seen you do it to someone like CotMM. He submits a 6 minute piece every week. WHY? I don't usually say things like this, and i'm thankful i'm level headed because i would be saying a lot worse right now, but this has hacked me off a bit, because what you've said in your comment i found to be insulting. I'm not known for quality tracks, and sometimes i do make things that can be loud, annoying or a bit over the top production wise. I do make things that are weird, or not based off the norm, and that's fine. And yes i also follow the 6 minute rule (I know i use to make 14 minute pieces, but that was a long time ago, during the period where the rules were sort of relaxed, and not as enforced. Besides we judge on the present, and future, not the past. Even if this was brought up now, it bares no relevance to what i'm saying, or the topic on hand.) Compo's like One Hour Compo don't set any rules in regards to what music can be made. I'm not obligated to make music in X style. There shouldn't be restrictions on how to make music, nor am i forced into making music in a certain way. Compo should be accessible to everyone in all styles, and all skill levels, not just for the elite. It clearly states everything i've pointed out in the rules: "This compo is open to everyone, from aged veterans to first time mixers. You are welcome to create something original or remix pre-existing work, the purpose of this compo is to encourage practice and skill up. You may remix in any program, but please only upload MP3 format 6 MB or less, 6 minutes or less."

The most important part: I feel your subsequent comments including this one: "We're not in early 2000s anymore, we're in 2022 (still)" Is a clear violation of rules 3 and 9. And if i wasn't a calm person, i'd also say Rule 1. I apologise for the rant, but you did kind of tick me off. Nobody else said anything of this sort, during the listening of my piece, only you did. You don't partake in this compo, you never submit a piece, or even vote in the voting section. You are allowed to do what you wish (Observe, give advice, comment etc), but not in this form. We are here to have a good time, irrespective of skill level, and share good music. Please keep it to that, thank you.

Ok now let's move onto the entries. Thanks for the kind words from the rest of you guys!

TheVideoGamer - This track is part 2 of my journey through a Christmas suite. Not only will i have a complete piece of music at the end of it, it also provides me with opportunities for more creative planning. It's one thing to make a track, but it also get's me to understand how to fit something small into a grand piece of work. It's different, and honestly i kind of like that. But really at the end of the day, i just love Christmas, so there's that lol. This track is basically Funky House, with a chord progression full of syncopated goodness, a solo melody, and a change in chords using pad and strings with a bit of a weird vibrato effect to make it more of an unusual sound, whilst still being more on the "normal" end, if you were to accurately describe it. Throughout the track, is touches of acid goodness, some syncopated basslines and a 808 punchy beat, sealing the deal. All in all, i hope you like it! Stay tuned for part 3!

Lyra_183 - Really great singing! Would sound great on a beat! You are a really great songwriter, good job!

cotmm68030 - Notice how this is 5:51 and i'm not at all phased by the length? That's because it's the last thing i care about. Even with the crashes, you still manage to come out with 6 minutes of goodness. I also love that you don't just Paul stretch or pull out what is a 5 second clip into a 5 minute clip. You really add a lot of into certain sounds, as well as go really hard with a lot of the textures. I love when the beat kicks in, it starts of very eerie and cold, but then you introduce some industrial like beats, and a nice layered bassline and 8th note synth sequence. The one thing i think would make this perfect, is maybe some pad chords. Something more eerie, that can take a load off some of the synth work. They're times where the bassline is centre stage, and honestly i like that, it showcases how cool the textures are. The transition to the ending, could be a bit more smooth, it just stops dead in favour of the reverb noise samples (As seen in the beginning), but despite that i actually enjoyed it! After a few repeat listens just because i wasn't sure, i ended up finding more to like than dislike, so well done!

Koekepan - Whispery vocals, with a nice live equipment feel. It definately feels like some modular synth a la Arcana. I do like how the vocals occasionally pop up, makes for a very ASMR type listen. They're not as frequent, as i thought they should, but i did like the surprise. Now i did mention that sometimes you do have a habit of going the very minimal, and sadly repetitive route sometimes, and i can sense a little bit of that in this track. The changes in the pad chords and dynamics, really plays a part in making this expressive, than simply looping it. I do like the chimes in this one also. There is just a touch of sparkle thrown in a very techno like backing loop. I'm big into the sound effects in the background, it makes the whole track feel more human. 4 minutes is perfect for this, i feel if you went any longer, you might have to start adding in a solo melody, or other items as it may become a little bit tedious. Now you notice that my comments were coming from honesty, but also maintained a degree of respectfulness and a degree in professionalism. I didn't attack you because your track was repetitive. I didn't need to put a *sigh* like you were somehow making me frustrated for doing stuff like this. I simply say, that this if this were to be made longer, you might want to add a few more instruments to break the ice, so it doesn't get too samey. I'm willing to admit, sometimes i make repetitive stuff too, so i'm not always the arbitrator on what constitutes a repetitive tune or not. I've rambled for way too long, in the end i decided to give this to you, well done!

DarkShadow - If there isn't a bassline overload in this piece, then you know it's not from DarkShadow lol. Sometimes your tracks are so crazy, i can't even tell what melody is which, or what chords are which. This is sometimes great, more often not my cup of tea. Good job though!

AintShitJosh - All the WAAHHH's. This is some very funky guitar, and some sweet background like vocals. Your music is very trippy and psychedelic, it reminds me of Glass Animals, but without the trap influences, and more of the lo-fi hip hop influences. It's like you've taken a hip-hop beat, added a load of acoustic production to it, and then saturated it into vibrato and reverb, it's pretty beautiful. It's very laidback and smooth, i love this a lot. I so wanted this to be on the list, but i could only choose 3. It's sad i know. Awesome work!

DDRKirby(ISQ) - Oh were going for that kind of knife? XD. No but seriously the Shamisen was already fire as it was, and then you decide to take it further with chiptune percussion and basslines, and a fire beat. The melodies are super fire, and really adds a nice touch of epic-ness to the party. The whole thing would definately not sound out of place in a Japanese boss fight in a video game, the whole thing was extremely catchy as hell, enough to put you on the 2nd spot, incredible work!

Dex - RAWWWKK. I love the chords in this, it's a great mix of s rock like arrangement, but with a hint of Disco into the mix. I always get a Crush 40 feel in your tracks. If not, it's Blink-182. A bit of a generic comparison i guess lol, but it does sound like it's from them bands. I love how many chords you use in this, it's almost like your teasing a key change, but you then you resolve back into the chorus, which begins on a G Major chord. It's super groovy, and a extremely fun listen, well done!

Meistr - Great intro, totally has the Nuke intro down. That main lead melody sounds like it's emulating a guitar it's a really dirty synth. The compression and side-chain in this is really hard, it's very groovy and makes me headbang pretty hard. You totally have the Nukage electro sounds down, this was seriously dirty, and gritty. Super lovely stuff, so lovely this was my 3rd spot pick, amazing work!

NickC - NickC bring out the detuned techno vibes, nice. It's got some great background textures, which at first i thought there was something wrong with my audio, but not it's actually a part of the track. The 303 bassline, is definately reminiscent of some of your old pieces. It's like a mixture of techno, with a strange ambience. I do feel the drums in this one are a tad bit flat, if you want to sell the techno experience for me, you gotta go hard on the drums man lol. The sound design is killer, but the weak beats, kind of put it down a tad. Everything was great though, good job!

Misael.K - I'm liking this piano, it's got a very urgent sound, like it belongs to some cinematic movie or montage. It's very nicely done chords, with all the lovely Misael.K seasonings that come out from you. I love the pads in this, it's a lovely mixture of cold, but also adds more atmosphere and really amplifies the grand nature of the whole piece. The vocal work, and the drum work really seals the deal, transforming something cinematic, into something hard hitting, as close to symphonic metal without any metal elements at all. It was super fun listen, with an awesome array of melodies, well done! So awesome i put this on the top spot, incredible work!

Arcana - Great stabs, i already instantly get the feel that i'm on the dancefloor, but with the addition of the classic Arcana vocals. The drums in this are a little quiet, especially when you include your vocals. The singing is great, but i do feel the vocals are taking centre stage here, the rest of the mix is drowned out by the vocals. However it was a ton of fun, and the idea was great, it has a lot of potential, good job!
