Second: who was relevant?
Third: who was musically original and competent?
coloradoweeks topped the list, and I thought that her triphop oriented delivery was very creditable to boot.

great stuff coming down the pipe! i had a tough time picking a top 3, so i prioritized entries that i felt captured the theme well. Misael.K's entry appeared in my dream after the listening party, so that deserves a spot in the top 3.

Now as i said last week, it's 4am in the Greek time zone, therefore submitting a track is really pushing it. I know i'm just adding 2+ hours to the UK time, making it really not any different, however 4am vs 2am is still a difference nonetheless. Put it this way, i was tired as hell, so i didn't have time to make something, or did i have the energy to do so. The fact i uploaded last week was kind of incredible to be honest, like i didn't think i'd have the energy to do so, but i sort of made it.
It doesn't even matter anyways, as it turns out what i'm doing is technically illegal, so i don't want to get into more bother. I'm lucky the admins still at least like me. It won't be long before i become the most hated man in Compo and i get booted out the site lol. On the days i'm in the UK at 2am, i follow the image and spend some proper hard time making music. It's rare for me to share something made before hand. Yes i make use of old projects, however my time in OHC is spent fixing it up/expanding upon it to make it fit the theme, therefore the time is actually used in this compo. I don't even know why i'm still going on, i have music to listen to. Thanks for your feedback anyways (Even if i didn't submit)
ScootaLewis - It's been ages bro, and the first i've heard real music from you, instead of spoken word stuff (This is not a negative). Now if it's this early, it's likely a chance something premade. If not, i'm actually impressed at how fast you work. The 80's styled drum machine beat, and sort of Skinny Puppy like vocals are very groovy. It's hard to describe it, but i get a late 80's EBM feel. The singing is pretty awesome, well done!
Koekepan - Distorted sines les gooo. Deep sine waves always bring about this crunchiness that isn't usually brought on by other wave sounds. I don't know why that is, but it's very cool. Normally it makes things loud, however in this case it's balanced just right. I love the fade in pads, really brings out the atmosphere. This is also one of the Koekepan entries that isn't too repetitive or minimal, it's very fitting to the theme, well done!
cotmm68030 - This theme is gonna give us a lot of ambient based stuff, and i'm all for it. Now this one has a beat that is very inline with the industrial leanings i'd expect from you, but with a lot of that cold ambience. The beats make it seem like this is some action chase from a movie, it's weirdly energetic for something more dark and cold. The drums are super dynamic to say it's different patterns of intense distortion. So while energetic to the theme, which i don't consider fitting, it is as a piece on its own very engaging and lovely to listen to, like i did enjoy bopping to this one a lot. Theme relevancy was what ended up you on the third spot (It was extremely fitting to the theme). Awesome work!
DarkShadow - Always look forward to your onslaught of distortion, saws and squares, dubstep noises and fast tempos lol. No but seriously, sometimes you make the dopest bangers it's untrue. This one unfortunately is not my cup of tea, it ends abruptly, the drums are flat, and there seems to be a lack of middle end (Which i think could be filled up by pads or synth chords and the like). Still though, it was fun to listen to, good job!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - Some foley work in this one. You're no stranger to making melodies out of metal sounds lol. This one definately fits the vibe more for this theme, even for it's energy. It feels definately fitting for that James Bond Goldeneye N64 like vibe. Like i'm ready to explore and kill bad guys. Honestly nothing bad to say, i struggle to find problems in your pieces, you always excel every week with awesome stuff. Awesome work!
Coloradoweeks - More industrial noises :). There does seem to be a common pattern in a lot of entries. I know it's pointless analysing, but you do get a gist for how these entries are made, and what goes on inside of the mind. The track itself is lovely, the beat is super groovy. However sadly i think the vocals are a little buried. It's almost as if this is not really the style you usually make, or it's your first time making this (That's not a bad thing, it's more of a compliment). The track is awesome, but the vocals could be a little louder, that's really it. Ending was abrupt. I don't know about this one, it was both awesome, and also had potential for mixing touches. Thought about this one for a while, and the beat one me over in the end, well done!
Dex - Sweet minor piano chords. Feels like we are in some kind of RPG battle or something. The whole thing sounds very soundfonty, which is a little bit of a negative sadly (Yes i did read the description, and i did try and take that into account). The composition is lovely, and the melodies are super strong and beautiful, but the instruments don't sound real to me, it's all very mechanical in my opinion. If i was assessing it base purely on melodies alone, this would easily have the potentially to be on the top 3, however i don't just listen to melodies, and i take into account a lot of things when voting, including mix and sound quality. So while this is not a dig against you or the piece, i didn't feel the sounds sadly, and that's what ended me placing you in the Good Job section, i'm sorry.
obScene - The master of dark cinematic music. I dig the piano in this a lot, it's very spooky and fitting for a horror movie. The perfect blend of scary haunting melodies and chiptune solos. The way you make these melodies as well is also just beautiful. I loved the whole thing from start to finish, i must study your pieces, they are so unique, and so vibrant. Definately fitting to the theme, it was just awesome! Amazing work!
DJohn - Haha! This is both hilarious, and extremely funky at the same time. The guitar work is amazing in this, extremely groovy. It's also very distorted, and i don't know if that's intentional. The waveform speaks for itself, in that there is almost a line running through, rather than dynamic spikes. Now this is hard, as that sad negative does impact my voting, however the lyric writing and melodies were extremely strong. You see a track would have to have extremely horrendous production for me to give it a good job irrespective of how incredible the melodies are, like if the melody writing is excellent, but the beat and mix sucks ass? Then it's likely that you won't move farther than a good job. In this case, mixing is needed a bit on this, however the melodies were too good for me to remove it from the Awesome category. In fact, they were the reason why i really wanted to put this on the list, but i couldn't. The mixing needs a little work yes, but the composition was just amazing! Awesome work!
mcmiagblackmanisgod - Is that a processed Melvin Bliss break? Your sample chops are always seriously good, however they're moments where you get a little too on the repetitive side, because your stretching a loop for 2-3 minutes.. Also because there is a lack of a bassline in this, it really makes the drums stand out in a little loud way. If this were to be awesome, i'd add more elements, include some vocals in it, and maybe polish a bit of the mixing. Otherwise this was a ton of fun. Good job!
Ashka - Every track you post i immediately make sure to remove any biases i might have towards your submissions, and listen with as open of a mind as possible. Even with that, i still fail. The most unbiased of listens, still results in god tier music. Like literally I CANNOT FIND A SINGLE FAULT WITH YOUR PIECES. The mixing is always excellent, the melodies and chords are so uniquely Ashka, and the arrangement is always soooo pretty. You know how this goes unfortunately, VOTE ASHKA #1, because he deserves it lol. No but seriously, incredible work dude!
Treyt - You really must hate this huh? lol. I don't know what's so bad about it, i'm hearing some lovely synthwave basslines, some really intense compressed beats, and that Nukage dubs and wubs, that is a joy to listen to. There is nothing bad about this at all, it's pretty awesome shit. If i had to really critique, then i would do with some more compression and sidechain, to really make it pop, almost close to Nukage's level of sidechain. Even with all of it's shortcomings and humour, i loved every second of it, and definately did not think it was skippable. Well done!
Nukage - Really digging these piano chords, very dark and cinematic. Loving the synth work as usual, really makes this inequivalently EDM sounding. Now the drums are surprisingly the same as the last track, in terms of critique. I'm missing that signature punch from your usual kicks and snares in this. It's almost like they are buried a bit in the mix. The whole thing needs a little more polish in general. However the idea was really good, and the sick melodies and sound design, prevented it being a Good Job. Well done!
Misael.K - 1 minutes, i guess time got to you lol. Now this is a little too short for me to get a strong reaction out of me, and vocal mixing could be beneficial here, however the composition itself saves so many problems, and really makes it hard for this to be a good job. The singing is actually lovely, the melodies are beautiful in a way, for a funky electronic piece, and your singing on its own is actually what makes it the highlight. It's really just the singing. This just about scraped the well done section, i was close to putting it in the Good Job section. However i found more to like than dislike, so well done!
Handknit - Cool synth filtering. I like the acoustic drum loops, really adds some live performance aesthetic to the whole thing. The whole thing is very quiet, and the melodies are a little simple and a tad bit repetitive. The drums are way too hot for this kind of style as well, it's as if your trying something experimental wise. Maybe i'm not the audience, i'm sorry, but it felt more like an experiment than a fleshed out piece of music (Sorry if i sound harsh). Good job though!
Arcana - Piano and strings always makes for a good combo. The chords and melody reminds me of Anastacia for some reason lol. The melodies are lovely in my opinion, but the vocals seem a little out of tune in certain areas, which shows quite a bit. The mixing and melody work is really nice (Although the vocals get a little loud at the end). The ending was also abrupt, i felt there is a chance for more to be added. All in all, it's a lovely piece, it just needs some things working on, to make this awesome. Good job though!
Meistr - Late submission les goo. Sweet arps and chords, i feel another Nukage type beat coming. I dig the buildup and drops in this one. Sidechain is very heavy, almost like it's taking over the melodies a lot. When the bassline comes in, some of it's alleviated, and when it drops it goes amazingly hard. It's almost like the melodies are quiet, but the drums and bassline are a little too loud. I don't know, i found more to like than dislike in this one, so i'll give you it. Well done!
