@Misael.K - Is it? I didn't think my entry would connotate Christmas feelings lol.
@David John - "I was petrified"
@Misael.K - Dam i guess my entry really is one for the holidays haha. This was far from my intention at all.
@Koekepan - I don't think you would want to meet my family lol.
@CotMM - My track would have to be more depressing than that haha.
@Atmospherium - This guy gets it XD. It's like the most aggressive sound meets the most beautiful one.
@Coloradoweeks - Close, i was raised in a Warehouse lol
@Atmospherium - How about all 3?
@David John - I learnt my first DAW as a fetus XD
@NickC - Always makes tracks better, never underestimate it's power lol.
@Atmospherium - It's nice to be able to provide the unexpected in compo's sometimes. It's great. Glad you liked it!
Now for my other submission.
@JH Sounds - Suddenly started to realise i borrowed some lines from your entry lol.
@Misael.K - With 10 minutes to go, and a smirking idea after seeing JH's title, i got to work. Kind of real time, but mostly because i had time to spare. To everyone lurking, i made the full thing in Discord, if you wanna check it out.
@JH Sounds - lul
@NickC - I might have travelled back in time a bit haha.
@Misael.K - Oh noes, we must get the defibs stat ;)
@JH Sounds - Yeah thanks for making this cover/mashup really easy for me lol.
@Atmospherium - Do you want me to get an autograph for your brother too?
@David John - Inception ooo
@Arcana - Maybe i said that on purpose ;) People do covers all the time, it's no big deal. Just glad it got an amusing response hehe.
@JH Sounds - To be fair i don't think Eminem really did much with the sample, other than add a beat, and instrumental parts for him to rap over, so of course the beat's going to be the same BPM.
@Misael.K - See what i did there? ;)
@JH Sounds - Yep haha.
@Coloradoweeks - Shoulda added the Dido GIF in JH's cover and Eminem's GIF in mine lol
@Atmospherium - It was indeed a perfect end.
@JH Sounds - Obviously this was posted before i covered the final 2 verses.
@Atmospherium - Haha so true.
@JH Sounds - Honestly i guess we should thank Eminem for sampling Dido, otherwise this whole trade-off wouldn't have been necessary lol. Very humbled for you to have enjoy my rework though, and i'm especially humbled you managed to cover a track for a fitting day. Lightens all our spirits up.
@JH Sounds - That sounds about right haha. The difference between Eminem and me though is that i respond very quickly XD.
@Everyone - Thanks for the kind words!
Now then...
TheVideoGamer - I originally planned for something else, however the theme was one of those oddly specific ones, and as much as i had an idea for something smooth and maybe even more minor, i noticed all these sort of warm connotations to it, such as "Grandmother's Turkey", making this more of a Thanksgiving theme. As a result, i ended up changing my tune into that of a party/uplifting vibe, with more rich jazzy chords. Quite uplifting, and very rhythmical, with large quantities of unusual syncopation. The big thing to note is the contrast, between the light melodic ideas, (which are both half-funky and half-relaxing, mainly because of the synths), and the heavy distorted hardstyle beats, which don't play in a 4/4 style, but rather an off-beat breakbeat-ish feel. It's got a lot of swing, so it's not your typical beat. I kept trying to add a different chord progression/melody, but i wasn't budging, so this was as much as i could get out of it. It's also why it's 3 minutes, and also played a role into the creation of the second submission.
ThaTaskmasta - Basically JH Sounds had an idea to make a cover version of a song called Thank You by Dido. Dido's song was brought to the attention of Eminem, and not long after Stan was created, taking essentially the chorus and the instrumental parts of Thank You, using that to rap over. Everyone knows the song, but this is for those who don't see the connection. Anyways.
cotmm68030 - Very interesting sound design in this one. A sweet mixture of industrial music, dark ambient and cool haunting soundscapes. It's kind of the style that always seems to suit you. Great work on the drum processing, it's very nice and moody, but very intense. Really nice maim melody, however it can be a little more in the background rather than in front, which i feel it should be. However the idea is really cool, it's drawing me in more, the more i listen to it, so i'll give you this one. Well done!
DarkShadow - As you do lol. I will say the drums are super tight in this one, huge fan of them. Really liking the spooky nature. It's hard to critique this one exactly, because i both love the idea, but yet i feel more could be done. I do like the chiptune elements a lot, but i feel the melodies can be a bit dissonant in areas, and the intro is too repetitive for it's 2 chords. Oh well, good job though!
Koekepan - Very soft and moody Koekepan style. Really liking the airy pads in this one a lot, very soothing, lovely synth sounds in this one, it's very lovely ambient music. Not too minimal, just the right balance of developments, to keep me satisfied. Would really enjoy listening to this for 10 minutes, well done!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - That's a very dry guitar you've got there lol. The hi-hats are very excessive, but i want to know if this is all intentional. The whole thing is very dry, which makes me ponder if all of this is one big troll haha. I mean i got a huge laugh from the idea, but in terms of the actual track, the mix feels intentionally un-fleshed, and despite me understanding the whole purpose, i feel it's hard to get into it, because my brain just wants to point out the excessive hi-hat, the dry guitar, the slightly loud vocal and other things. I'll give you points for the humour, however i'm afraid it's a good job from me.
Dex - Very nice cinematic instrumentation. Kind of preparing us for battle. The battle of Grandma's Turkey haha. Great chords and bass, feels very much like trailer music. Starts of soft and almost calming, then the big thumping drums come in, telling us it's time for war. Quite the heavy tune. As much as the mix is great, and it's a fun experience, i feel there needs to be some harmony change, were stuck on the same 4 chords throughout, with only dynamic changes. No significant rhythmical changes, or any melody as such. Again the whole idea is a ton of fun, but it could do with some minor variation (Which when i made my first entry, i tried so hard to change it up, but failed). Oh well, good job though!
DJohn - Great ethnic percussion, almost tribal like. Love the beat, very deep that bassdrum has a lot of punch to it. Great grooves, super funky. Really was vibing my head to that. Beautiful vocal work, really brings it to life, when it comes in. Ton of fun. Awesome work!
JH Sounds - I'm not going to talk too much here, because i've already gone over this too many times now. Don't think i did that shit intentionally just to diss you haha. You sing this cover very well, perfect run up to my version. Well done!
Atmospherium - RAAAAAAWWWWWKKKKKKKKK. Chugging that guitar real nice there. Your vocal as usual is just awesome, fits soo well with the style. I honestly can't really critique this, i just can't find anything wrong, it's just Metal as it should be, you made a really lovely produced track. Well done!
obScene - Ok listening to these entries makes me wonder, why didn't i do a dry mix or something lol. Really nice bells here, i think you've used Tibetan bowls or something. Or it could be a gamelan. Very soft and moody, but very spacious, fits an emotional scene or something, especially when the piano comes in, it's just beautiful. Although the whole thing is super nice, the second part really elevates it into an incredible experience, your melodies and instrument sounds are always on point, beautiful stuff. Awesome work!
NickC - Sick synth work here, very funky. Feels like some avant-garde disco experience coming my way. Never mind it's cinematic IDM. Super intricate beats, very cool. It's like dubstep being blended with uniquely programmed beats. Not glitchy, but very cool nonetheless. Great string work, super into that. Not sure how i feel about the whole package, the basslines felt a bit obtrusive, and maybe more variation in the strings could be something to look at, but as with all my critiques, taste is personal, and it was a lovely idea. Good job though!
Coloradoweeks - Amy Winehouse? Wow that's an artist i would last to expect to see on compo, but i'm all for it. She's a great singer! Fondly remember the original quite well, and honestly i mean it. Your cover matches if not maybe even surpasses the quality of the original. It's such a beautiful produced cover! I already love you voice, but it's the combination of the piano, bass and drums along side the awesome singing that do it, especially since it sounds like an original interpretation, not a basic 1-1. Don't know why it ends so abruptly, did you ran out of time to record the rest? If so, what a shame, i was getting super into it. Incredible work!
Eva - Eva is really upping her drum game here! I love that kick and snare combo, very nice and spacious! Great guitar work, i can see a lot more deep reverb usage in this one. Timing issues are unfortunate in this one. I think you record the guitar, then add the drums later. This is honestly though, one of my favourites from you, the drums are really good, just the timing issues that i feel could be improved upon. Good job though!
Arcana - 40 minute compo i guess? Really nice piano work and singing, however the voice is unfortunately very loud. Almost to the point of clipping, but i do try and be understanding for those who didn't have a lot of time, due to a variety of reasons. The clipping unfortunately becomes really noticeable at the end. Really liked the idea though! Good job!
Misael.K - Woooooh these are some lovely chords. Very uplifting, seriously catchy melodies! Shame it's only a minute, the chords and melodies are really something! Would love to hear more with this, it's such a lovely piece of music, very joyous! Awesome work!
