impossible colors
NickC
DDRKirby with the overall execution. I liked the composition and the use of the sounds here.
I liked MisaelK's textures. We had a lot of textures this week, but I think MisaelK combined texture best with variations in melody and harmony.
NickC was rich with textures as well, but I liked the contrast between the up front arp and the distant pads.
Honorable mentions:
ethansight for the tight beats
TVG for the really fun beats
cotmm for the kind-of-but-not-really ambient-with-drums sound. It was actually almost close to what I did, with the distant voice and all!
Good job all, nice to see great fun things week after week

@Gario - I think it might be a compressor...
@Arcana - Bring on EVERTHING....lol
@Misael.K - Layering for the win!
@Arcana - That makes it all the more exciting..
@DDRKirby - Bring on the Nintendo comparisons haha. This is very energetic, so it does seem like some rainbow road Mario Kart kind of level.
@Everyone - Ok at this point everyone is just literally lost in a sea of Mario references haha.
@Misael.K - I have plans to do a remix/re-arrangement of this at some point, so keep an eye out in a future compo.
@Arcana - There's only really 2 sections. So A then B then A again. Each section has it's own distinctive chord progression and melody.
@Misael.K - The tempo for this track i believe is 160bpm. So relatively fast, but not hardcore fast.
@Arcana - Not always. Sometimes i might end up doing some very spaced out, one chord ethereal ambient techno pieces, (Or just ambient pieces). Maybe it's because i've been doing a lot of these hyper tracks lately, that give off that impression...
@Everyone - Thanks for the kind words!
Now then...
TheVideoGamer - This track is presented in essentially 2 halves, but they both follow from each other, so it's more interpreted as 2 sections. The first is more in line with Breakbeat/DnB genres, complete with a thumping kick, to really accent the punch, while the second half is more of a high energy rave kind of feel. Not trance, because it's very jazzy in it's chords. Both feel like separate songs sure, however they kind of follow along from each other, kind of like 2 parts. Honestly i'm just glad i made something i actually enjoy, instead of going the cheap route. Hope you like it too.
Lyra_183 - Piano and voice combo works super well. Kind of humorous too, well done!
DarkShadow - Pushing both the tempo and the chiptune vibes lol. Very good stuff from you, good job!
Souperion - Rocking vibes from you. I was expecting this from Wassup Thunder i don't know why haha. The strings always bring a nice hint of flavour to the composition. Very intense and cinematic i like it a lot. Not expecting it to go to the 2 minute mark, you usually make it 4 minutes heh. Well done!
cotmm68030 - Liking that drumset, not usually the kind of person to make rock- like tunes, but i like it nonetheless. I think the drums are a little too busy for this kind of genre, (Especially since the background elements invoke more ambient music) and maybe a little too loud, however i dig the background textures a lot. Good job!
Gario - Oooh i like the 80's approach, mixed in with the NES Styled chiptunes, lovely combo. I love the melodies a lot, your melody writing is top notch quality. Ending was super satisfying. Welcome back, even if i don't know you lol. Well done!
Wassup Thunder - You seem to use the same synth for your chords/melody. I don't hate it per-say, but i do want to know why you keep using it. The melodies in this one are seriously dope, however the drums are barely non-existent. Where's the kick dude? I need me some backing drums for this track, that could really enhance the experience. Good job though!
s9menine - Sorry dude, i can't judge based on only 10 seconds of material. Even if the jazz harmony is amazing.....
DDRKirby(ISQ) - I feel like it sounds way too FX driven to be directly from the SNES. I don't know if i'm being ignorant, but a part of me feel like there is some FX here, even if i can't 100% tell. To focus on the good bits though, The whole thing is awesome. Your melody and harmony writing is incredible as always, and i love the way you used the drums in this, it's just a lovely melodic composition from start to finish. Awesome work!
InvisibleObserver - Some nicely done aggressive electro dubstep vibes here. Don't know what to make of this, it just jumps straight into it, no warning. The idea is super cool, however it's very sudden, giving me no time to conceptualize what's going on. Maybe it's chaotic who knows, but i just feel like there could be an intro, or an opening to prepare me for the drop/beat. Good job though!
NickC - Mystical sound painting ooh. I like this, it's very horror-movie-ish. For me it's very unrelated to the theme, but very cool too. Towards the end, the melody writing gets a bit brighter, and very colourful. Ah, now i see what i've done haha. I guess the colours come at the end. The melodic writing is very pretty here i must say. I feel the first part is very unsettling, does not remind me of vibrant colours at all, but it's lovely stuff nonetheless. Well done!
Misael.K - Always nice to see a composition explore odd time-signatures. I believe this in 5 right? I dig the chords and arp, this is some really nice groovy stuff. The arp really makes it for me, and of course the melodies. The bit-crushed melody is a big factor into all of this, it just brings it to life. I really love the way it's arranged and sound, such an awesome use of chords and melodies, and the sound choices are just awesome. Amazing work!
Arcana - Arcana going experimental? I'm down for that. Not sure if my assement is right, but this feels like modular synthesis no? If so, it's such imaginative creative sound design. The way it flows, the effects used and the tuned vocals, it's such good experimentation. Maybe it's too dark for the theme who knows, but i'm in love with the crazy ideas, i love me some good sound manipulation, so much so, i gave it the top 3. Awesome work!
Ethansight - More funky goodness, this time from Ethansight. Tight house-y grooves and head-bopping goodness. Great range of modular effects in the background, really liking how it develops too. It's just nicely done, from start to finish. Ending could have not been so abrupt, but apart from that, well done!
Top 3 - Misael.K, Arcana, DDRKirby(ISQ)
If more spaces could be filled, i would also add Gario and Ethansight to the mix, however i can only choose 3....
Awesome - Lyra_183, Souperion, Gario, DDRKirby(ISQ), NickC, Misael.K, Arcana, Ethansight.
Needs Work - DarkShadow, cotmm68030, Wassup Thunder, s9menine, InvisibleObserver.

DarkShadow - super wobs
Lyra - chords work well with the melody, just needs a beat now
Souperion - high energy and good guitars

Wassup Thunder - like the eurobeat style you should swing into it more. Missed a kick!
s9meine - wonderful chords and delicate drums
InvisibleObserver - pictures were made by someone dipping their hair into paint and headbanging to this
NickC - Delicate ethereal place, love the deep swells at the end
Misael.K - Love all the different textures, lots of contrast.
