A Sun in your Hand is a lovely piece, well sounded, well shaped, not too pedestrian in form and still approachable.
A Miner Discovery is a solid piece as well, with attractive addition of interest with the bends.
Titanic Storm is a great construction of tension, but alas the ending is a little unsatisfying.

I really wanted to vote for Shitbird's entry as well, but in the end the rather ordinary form was the deciding element that pushed it a little down the list.

Too few entries this week! But all were good.

1) "A Sun In Your Hand" - This is really great - I love that bass, and the development overall. I think the kick in this really holds the piece together when it goes into different sections and such. Thematically, I guess it works pretty well, like energy is pulsating or something.

2) "Glassblowing" - I like how this entry captures the "sound of heat", and things slowly wearing away by the quivering of certain sounds. You are great at drawing out a single detail musically and ambiently.

3) "Forever in Amber Crystals" - The only parts that truly work for me are the intro and the bit at 1:26, but the latter is so lovely that it's worth a vote. So basically yeah, the parts with less percussion seem to work better for me generally. I think it's just the beat though; it doesn't seem to match with the music and its repetitive pattern makes it too long drawn out. Well, that's about as best as I can describe it. ^^;

----

Other mentions:

- "Rock Song" - I love the introduction - there are quite nice sounds from those chords. I'm kind of partial on the autotuned voice; it's amusing. I guess I didn't really feel any aspect of the "theme" from this.

- "The crystal cave" - This is cute; I love the drum. It could have been expanded further, maybe, but it's good as it is, too.

Shitbird: oh no, this entry is great! What I hear, what I hear is awesomeness coming through it... this entry, is like made of cool Vocaloids or something. It's a great entry, I'm sure it's gonna be ranked high. But that's okay, I can't always win, great entries should get first place. I can't always win.

Random-storykeeper: some lovely tunes! great drums and melodies. I think the flow works just fine, no section feels too short nor too long. The gentle panning effects are a nice touch. Good work! Like Koekepan once said, you sometimes sound very Nobuo Uematsu -esque.

Patashu: I like the adventure in this. Good beat. The busy parts are very cool.

awesum: Patashu, Random-storykeeper, Shitbird.
good: Arcana, Koekepan.

So, I couldn't make it to this week's compo because I had a play performance. I don't feel like I missed out that badly, because the theme given was kind of hard to write a song around on its own. Everyone did a fantastic job though, Arcana's standing out as my favorite (very nice blend of electric guitar and electronic instruments/percussion). I also liked Rock Song and A Sun in Your Hand for having great parts individually, and I could really put almost any of the other 4 entries as honorable mentions. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!
