NickC did do a fair bit of new notation added, but the mood and atmosphere are retained beautifully. Good enough for me. Yeah it's not 1:1, but meh, I think this is about as liberal as I can go.

Silverpool64 - Are those Mario sounds? LMAO. Nice bit of trolling there, the voice-clips fit in far more well than they deserve to. Good production too. It's 1:1, but eh, you put in a lot of effort in the production, so that is great.

TheVideoGamer - Well, if you put in some more re-interpretation and fixed the clipping on those bass-drums, I wouldn't have had a problem putting you in first spot.

AxLR - No kidding, it is long lol. But it was a tad dull, imo. Coulda used a bit more variety. I wish you put in some more textures to fill out the long repetitive bits. But the sound design is interesting. I'd say that in terms of the 'liberal' takes here, NickC still outperforms, but this is still a a neat BONUS.

Oh what a nice round we have there !

But there's a thing that tickles me. My problem is that I've heard 3 times the original theme with different instruments.
That's the main reason why NickC's take on this was above the rest.

You see, I may not have a full grasp of the "MnP Wai", but I don't think that the goal here is to reproduce the theme with little tweaks so that the MIDI doesn't sound like a MIDI anymore. I may sound harsh but that's my opinion.

With that said, let's go for all the entries, shall we?

Firstly, NickC. Your remix has a very great sound design and nice work on the bass, I feel my whole body vibrating lol. This take is a solid work, keeping the essence of the original piece. If UT had a remake I'd clearly believe this would be on it's OST.

Next, Hoboka, your work on vocals is really great. I like the bitcrush added on some instruments, that made them really clean. Never thought soft drums would work on a track like this but yeah, nice job.

Now I don't see many differences between "Medium Rare" and "Another Song of Determination", aside from the sound effects that didn't go well.

"Medium Rare" is a bit loud, try toning down the volume. Simple, no real twists or tweaks but it's cool anyways.

"Another Song of Determination" would have sounded a lot better if you did put more time on the drums and tweaking that pluck that sounded too basic instead of adding those sound effects that threw me off instantly. Why Mario, Yoshi, and Sonic, Whyyyyyyyy? That's a shame, considering that this remix has some good potential.

Overall, nice round, I expect a little more from the contestants, but who am I to complain, you participated and that's already awesome ! Good luck to everybody !

TVG - Good mix and harder-hitting than the original, but I felt it lacks some of the magic the original piece had with its panning and choir.

AxLR - Interesting somewhat minimalist rendition. I think the hi hat is a little too loud. I'm not too sure about that lead that comes in at 2:15.

hoboka - Cool opening. I would have preferred the opening vocal to be panned center. The guitar is a really cool addition, but it sounds kind of hollow. I like all of the mix elements coming and going.

NickC - Cool opening, although I'd have preferred the lower sound that comes in at 0:40 to be more synthy and less vocal-y (I think you're using a vocal synth of some sort, which sounds kind of out of place with the lead vocal part). Definitely a lot of new stuff here. Be careful with clicks and pops. I hear some around 2:15. I can't keep track of everything going on around 4:00 but I really like it. Great entry, and very interesting from start to finish.

Silverpool - Mix sounds really good, although I think the open and closed hats should be panned to the same place. Hated the sound effects :p

TVG - the game might not have clicked with you but you nailed the track anyway, it retains the ethos of the original while being a bit different aesthetically

Hobo - vocal samples are a nice touch although they're definitely used best in the intro, not sure if it's mostly ooos and ahhs after that or if the other sounds are just lost in the mix as the samples are a bit fuzzy to begin with.

Silverpool - tbh I didn't feel like the sound effects jived with the original composition that well. especially that they're used the most and are the most goofy around what I hear as being a more serious part of the song, and by making that part more busy it takes away a bit from that being a breakdown where the energy level is temporarily diminished. still a lot to like here and it being incomplete I don't want to be too critical, some of my favorite sounds of the round in this entry I particularly like the bass and the lead synth that is panned to the right.

After much thought, i feel like HoboKa stood out to me as the best remix. Let's take it from the top.

AxLR - I really like this remix. It feels more laidback, and minimal compared to the others, you really feel it, when there isn't drums. As a whole i think this is an interesting direction to take it, however i do feel, the drums take up most of the space, largely because of the lack of melodic elements as a whole. Again it's a great idea, but to make this really excel, more synths could work, or maybe more structure as a whole. Maybe it's too minimal for me, who knows, but as a whole this was great!

HoboKa - I picked yours, because it was the cleanest mix of the bunch, and out of them, the most faithful, (Silverpool's track was pretty faithful too). I especially like the synth plucks, and ambient pads, i thought they went well with the beats. I feel the melody could be toned down, because it gets a little loud, and also i don't feel the guitars, personally (For me it felt a little, piercing), but the rest was great. Really liked this!

NickC - Really nice attempt, i love how huge it sounds, almost like an orchestra. However though, that does mean it gets a little too consistent. A break was needed, it's very loud and in your face for a good chunk. However i love the sounds, they were actually awesome. Definitely suits the orchestral feel. Not the most MnP friendly, but as an interpretation it was great!

Silverpool64 - Another faithful version. Really digging the synths, and drums, they were really nice. The only thing i didn't really like, was the saw synths, or the proto guitar, if that's what your going for. It made the mix a little too muddy. However it was still relatively clean, and rather nice. Also not sure, why you added Mario effects in there, it was very off putting lol, but as a whole this was great. Really solid work, i enjoyed this!

TheVideoGamer: I like your sound choices! This is the feeling I want out of every vgm song. Bouncy, big kick and snare, and full of energy. The drums were really overpowering, which made the melodies fade into the background. I wish they stood out a little more compared to the percussion.

hoboka: I like the mellow beginning and I really like the vocals and percussion! It was hard to hear the kick though. Nice ending!

NickC: Determination. :)
I really like the sound design! This felt more epic than the original, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I could see this as background music for a video game that leads into a boss fight.

AxLR: Interesting approach. I like how you were able to take the energy of the original and contain it. I think some of the percussion stood out compared to the rest of the song, like everything has a "mellow" filter on it except the percussion.
