Trism - Lemme say, you got down the throb and pulse dynamics of the source REALLY well. Something I forgot to think of when I remixed Maridia. Oh well. The percussion had a Metroid Prime vibe to it too. Nice touch. Getting better man. The addition of bass and rhythmic synth worked unexpectedly well. There was great personalization here and the "apology" title was really a disservice to me. Let the listener decide if it's a hindrance. I almost slapped you in 2nd place out of reflex because the title was so off-putting and demoralizing. But luckily I took several listens to see the brilliance in this piece. Nice work Trism! Only gripe is, I think the tempo should've been slowed down if you're gonna add a beat, so it's more MnP feeling. But it's such a minor gripe. Production is good too.

Dex - MAN THIS WAS TOUGH TO DECIDE if I wanted you or Trism 1st place. Amazing good re-interpretation here and the best production of everyone here, too. Chimes done nicely, nice addition of plucks/staccatos with original writing to compliment them. Got that throb and pulse down nicely too. The piano sample was a bit too dry for me, though the reverb-delay on it is pretty good. Dat oboe is sexy too. If I could tie for you for 1st place, I would. But such is it is.

Seth Skoda - Well, it's another pretty dope trap remix....that off-key bass drum-tone was not jiving with me, but it was a step in the right direction for the style you're going for. Nice flutes and synth-chimes. The strings samples were OK. But for something you did out of boredom, I'd say this is 75% of Seth Skoda's maximum effort.

Honorable Mentions

Silverpool64. Honestly, I was considering slapping you in 3rd place. Those bladerunner pads are sick and the funky dubstep-style drum samples with a sort of spacie 808 vibe worked pretty well imo. That final 2 bars of the song were left unfinished imo. Then there's the big space of emptiness. If you're gonna MIDI rip, you need to remove all of the controller parameters. Or option B, just load up new instrument tracks and copy/paste the notation to it than to directly use a MIDI track. Less hassle that way. Also use a different pattern than the first, just in case there is tempo and other controller effects you didn't account for.

TheVideoGamer - Last but not least. The strength lied in the drums and that weird pulse bass. The other samples are nicely atmospheric too. But the final segment with the moog bass style and break beat drums and the weird original writing really dragged it down for me. But still, the participation counts and is appreciated.

A lot of great entries this time. Had to think about this.

I think Dex was my personal favourite. Let's take it from the top.

Hoboka - If yours wasn't a bonus, you could have won to be honest (Or at least tied with Dex). The sound choices were pretty great, and the arranging was actually pretty awesome. Really like the nice touch of reverb on the piano, which mixes in well with the rather textured pad. Personally i had a few flaws, and mainly it was the runtime. I got bored by the end, it went on too long. Also it gets a little uneven towards the end, when you add a flute like melody. Other than that though, i really really enjoyed this. Well done!

SethSkoda - Great take on the source! Love how you used the good ol' hip hop strings to sell your point across. It actually works well with this kind of source. It also blends nicely too, it wasn't in the way or anything like that. In terms of flaws, only one big one sticks out, and what made you place 2nd. The bass was very muddy. The 808's could be a little better mixed, and maybe get a more larger snare to compliment the dense beat. Besides that, i love them strings, really sold it to me. Well done!

Trism - Such a nice dark electronica take on the source. Really liked the drums, they had a unique dynamic quality setting apart from others. I also like the arps too, they were also a unique selling point to the composition. Such a shame though it's very loud. Yours is the loudest mix, and it gets to the point where it's a bit much. Sad really, i love the beats and the sound choices here. Despite all that though, the individual elements do shine, turning this into a solid entry. Well done!

Silverpool64 - Not sure why you made it 5 minutes, since it ends after around 2 minutes in. I guess you forgot to check when exporting. Besides that though, i liked the drums here. Halfway between techno and synth-poppy. I don't know how to describe the beats, but they were great. I also liked the nice range of ambient synth sounds too, you used the one synth to it's advantage. Now for the flaws, and again it's only really one. It's repetitive, in terms of sounds used. Most if not all sounds were very similar and so it created a more constrained range. Besides that though i enjoyed this so well done!

Dex - Out of all of them, yours is not only the best sounding, but i'd say the best mixed too. I love how natural everything sounds, nothing stuck out, it was a well balanced orchestral version of the composition. The one thing i do love though is that piano. It works extremely well, and brought some fresh air to the party. If it were to point out some problems, only one minor one comes to mind, and that's mainly things get close to the threshold of well balanced, but nothing too loud. It's mainly affected towards the end, but there were very small moments throughout. Still though it didn't change anything, it was only close to the threshold if you well. Everything else was still perfect, and it is still a perfectly balanced mix, so congrats on your win!

TheVideoGamer: Nice entry! I liked how you kept the essence of the source. I also liked how the ending makes it feel like the world is exploding and you're trying to escape.

SethSkoda: I liked the drums! I felt like your entry wasn't as close to the original, so I gave you second place.

Dex: I liked your instrument choices, but your entry felt too different from the source atmosphere-wise, so I gave you third place.

Trism: Arpology accepted! :) I really wanted to give you first place, but I felt like you deviated too far from the original feeling of the source. It felt more like a boss theme rather than a dark, watery tunnel.

hoboka: If your entry wasn't a bonus, I would have had a harder time voting. I enjoyed the mellow sounds you choose.

TVG - A very nice minimalist opening, really invokes the isolated feeling of the game itself. The 'snare' on the drums is a little too present in the parts before the end speed-up, especially when there's a not a lot going on in the soundscape. The middle section could do with something to give to some variety to track as it's essentially the same as the intro. The ending is great, a very trance-style build-up before the breakbeats kick in. Those breakbeats are pushed a bit far back in the mix however, and the snare used in this section is also a bit overpowering. Overall a great track.

hoboka - I like the piano-style intro with the SFX pushed into the background; it puts the listener slighty off-balance and as such a little on-edge. The choir voice sounds a little too mechnical and might have been better used in the background to add more ambience. The flute works very well in adding a lone voice to the increasingly hostile soundscape. The harp-style in the harp sounds a little dissonant, but given the overall feel of track I'm guessing that's on purpose. I really like this track; it's a mildly off-putting spooky track rather than a full horror-style creepfest.

sethSkoda - I love the use of strings in this, mixed with the trap drums it works really well. The bass caused some dissonance for me at times, but that might be my shitty headphones. I feel the sustained lead could have been replaced by something else, possibly a drawn-out violin string or something similar. Also a pizzicato might have worked in there as well. Overall though this is great trap tune, nice work!

Silverpool64 - I nice understated take on the source, like the slightly off-kilter drums used throughout. Using a single synth is a cool exercise in producing a track, though as such there's not a huge amount of low-end mixed in there. That said; it's in impressive feat to limit yourself in such a way and you've done some good work with minimal tools.

Dex - The orchestral treatment really give the source a much more melancholic feel. The multiple levels of pizzicato work really well, as do the pipes towards the end of the track. Stripping everything back to the piano towards the end works really well. Overall an excellent job!

TVG - really tasty big kick and rimshot. I'd prefer it if you had used a less reverb-y kick for most of the hits and the big kick just for a few big hits though. I like the variations at the start of the second half. The end of the second half is kind of weird - it's way too happy and circus-like. It's interesting that you can turn this tune into that, but I'm not sure it fits.

hoboka - The ambient noises are cool. So is the choir. I think you need to let the choir voices fade out quicker though, to make it sound more realistic. The out-of-tune flute (ocarina?) is disturbing. I love the muted piano underneath it.

SethSkoda - The drums work really well, and the fills are great. The vibrato on the lead seems a little too fast.

Trism - Definitely a lot going on here. It's hard to keep track of all of it, but it all works together oh so well. The changeup in the middle and the second half are great.

Silverpool - The percussion is good and out of all the entries, this is the one I could see most actually fitting into a new Metroid game.
