8th Anniversary: Free Round (PRC208)
Outline
You may remix every song, except songs which has an OC Remix and songs which are covered in PRC before. Usual PRC rules apply.
One exception is the source of PRC207: Warlords III: Darklords Rising - Final Victory.
Because that PRC was the first (and hopefully last) which hasn't any entries, you get three points bonus if you remix this source. There's no MID for that source available, for a MP3 file, check http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/prc207

This is a mashup of three different songs: the "Navigating Icebergs" bit from Codename: Iceman, Detective Gumshoe's theme from the Phoenix Wright series, and the Battlefield 1942 theme. I took the core from Iceman (piano and bass), then changed the Gumshoe and Battlefield bits around to fit the chords. It was surprisingly easy once they were transposed to the right key.
Most of the brass synths were done with my MT-32, for that nice 80's vibe. The wibbly lead synth in one bit was some Maelstrom thing in Reason... I don't really like it, but I'm too lazy to change it now. Very lazy mixing as well; all my energy was spent just recording VSTs and so on and getting the audio files to match up, so no real EQ work going on...

Decided to give a shot to last round source, 'Final Victory' from Warlords III - Darklords Rising.
The original is a very sparse heroic fantasy song with an emphasis on atmoshphere and drums but little in terms of melodic content.
I went for a less medieval, more modern, action oriented and cinematic approach, using live percussions with a picked bass and rhythm guitars as a base, then infusing orchestra instruments mixed with ethnic and electronic elements to carry the main melody through the arrangement.
It was a fun challenge to remix this source, and a pleasure to cover yet another relatively obscure game. :)

The source for my remix is "The Instinct" from the SNES game Killer Instinct. I tried to give it a much more heavier atmosphere with the 7 string guitars, which brought the key down 3.5 steps. I even experimented with some vocals, tho I hate my vocals so I didn't do as much as I'd have like to with that.

I had a ton of fun with this one. The bass synth, a 3xOsc, personally reminded me of the one in Satisfaction, hence the mix title. I absolutely love the bassline, so I apologize if it is a bit too dominant.

This short piece is a collab with Pleiade, who provided additional sounds.Also my 1 year old daughter plays some random notes in the end. Didn't have the heart to leave all of them out. :)
