The Bleak Mid Summer

Rexy Been a while since I last mixed ANYTHING, so I hope this is all worthwhile. Welcome to my post-graduation setup.
Even prior to the PRC itself I've had a couple of MSN contacts urging me to get into the Metroid Prime series, one of which feeling that "if I liked Super Metroid I'd like the Prime set just as much". But regardless of Metroid links, my research into the Bryyo setup made me come to the conclusion that Samus was venturing around a dry planet with a high climate, and the main enemies' only weakness is ice. Bearing that in mind, this ended up being an interpretation of the theme that incorporates both feels of Summer and Winter all at once alongside it, albeit making it feel a little less creepy as well (that's not a bad thing, right?).

Well, it's been too long since I entered a PRC, so I figured it was high time to return. I liked the brooding feeling of the original tune and wanted to carry over that same type of style into my arrangement.
This is epic orchestral with some synthetics added in, with an almost industrial flavor to it (I hope :). The original lent itself well to an orchestral adaptation because of the harmonies and layers in the voices. My aim is for the listener to feel like they're actually visiting an unknown world that's not exactly friendly.
I've never even played the game, so this remix (which is really incomplete too, by the way) may not even have the right feel to it. Ah well. This is my first PRC (and my first contribution to any OCR remix competition, and unfortunately I'm not putting my best foot forward. This was just cooked up in a couple hours. I only used little bits and pieces of that cool choir score for the melody and bassline, and began and ended the song fairly abruptly. Sorry. Hope you like it anyway! :)
I have attempted to capture an ambient, spacey atmosphere, almost scary in places.
The introduction of the fast-paced bassline and pounding drums signal the start of the adventure on Bryyo.
