Analoq - Surprising intro, not too many voice have entered PRC. I don't like this, the song itself is a bit boring. The samples are just the same during the whole song.
Chickenwarlord - I like the intro of the song, but the rest is all the same. Also the ending is a bit weird
FiremanJoe - Vocals again. I like the intro of the song. There's more variation in the song as the previous two, but still not enough. The vocals are placed well.
Nutricious - I don't like the intro, but I like the sampling from the part around 1:00. Again, not much variation, but I like this one the best.

Nutritious and analoq both have the chilled, laid-back groove going on in their mixes...I gave the 1st to Nutritious for the Saxophone, really. If that's a "messy" recording, I'd love to hear a clean one.

analoq is great, as usual. I probably would've liked it more without the voice-overs...although even I'm not immune to the charms of the "da-da-da'ing" near the end.

I placed Chickenwarlord 3rd to round off a trifecta of laid-back mixes. The shortness and the sudden cutoff at the end detracts from the mix, but overall there's not much to complain about.

1. goodbye, rachel - this one just got style, the spoken word sounds natural and the groove is tight.

2. Frequent Flyer Miles - this also has nice groove though it is not as well established as in analoq's song. the rhodes, bass, and drums are ok, but the sax is really what saves this song.

3. Flying - the beat starts off ok but really the rapping is not good. just amateurish that's all.

i guess the only reason that song came 3rd is because i really didn't get chickenwarlord's song. i could hear where the original potentially was but between the guitar and what i'm guessing are strings the whole way the song was written just seemed arbitrary to me.

Nutritious' nice laid back groove really got me into a good mood. I like jazz, I like the saxophone. While the recording wasn't great it felt sort of gritty and appropriate for the lounge style.

I don't have a lot of love for spoken word, so the other two options seemed much less appealing to me.

Analoq's felt like a radio host trying to tell a heartfelt story, yet failing. The mumbling isn't helping your meaning get across. Diction would make this a whole lot better. It was also very repetitive, save for the voice, so that vocal contrast and changeup is necessary to make it interesting.

FMJ: Your diction is better than Analoq's but you could work on your rap a little more (not like I could do better). Your P's really 'pop' in the microphone. Maybe next time toning down the 'puh' sound is in order. Or you could overemphasize that 'puh' and make it your 'thing'.

1st - Flying - I remember hearing bout the concept of this, was funny as hell back then, now its even better. Those lyrics are crazy... Clean up the vocals a bit, maybe redo the chorus style (It'd sound better with a female 'Comon comon' imo) and submit to OLR

2nd - Goodbye, Rachel - I'm a sucker for spoken word, specially with jazzy beats. Nice arrangement of the source, and excelent sound quality/balance. Some improvised sax could'v been nice in the instrumental sections, and a bit more of the 'ba da-ba-da' (what type of sining is it... is that scat?). Add those in, and its OCR worthy (if they overlook the minimal source in light of high sound quality... easily possible).

3rd - Frequent Flyer Miles - Shame about the sound quality, which stood out after hearing Analoq's entry. The sax was quite nice (mabey contribute to analoqs rework of 'Goodbye, Rachel'?), and I liked the arrangement here alot. Very nice stuff, and the first Iv heard from you too, which is doubley as impressive.

FiremanJoe & Others:
as silly as this is, there's more creativity than my other choices. when the source material is so limited, even a small amount of creativity goes a long way. one of you guys needs to invest in a pop-screen, though: bad plosives on the rapping.

Nutritious:
doesn't surprise me that this is a style not familiar with the remixer, the rhodes & bass parts seem composed by guesswork. good thing there's a nice sax part! really, it's nice. i'd take "sloppy" sax playing over a sequenced sax part any day. best use of the source in my opinion as well.

Chickenwarlord:
normally i just give a compromising "keep at it!" to novices, but i can extend one bit of advice: be careful about mixing instruments with sharp attacks (nylon guitar) with slow attacks (strings) and having counterpoint between them -- it sounds uneven.

Nice chill song and I liked the crossovers to the commander keen song. Good narration, made it feel light-hearted.

Cheesy rap... can't say much more :)

I liked the ideas on fluffy flight, but the ending sounded like it got cut off - maybe in the format conversions.

Well, if his Commander Keen remix is any indication of his skill and talent, my number one vote has to go to analoq. There are few individuals with his level of talent, but in this mix, I think he shines, considering him and our other three entrants had only a week to make their mixes.

My second place vote goes to Nutritious. I'm all about good, chillout music; his remix is no exception. I'm especially a fan of good usage of saxophone. You can never have a good jazz/chill mix without a good sax. It's definately the bread and butter of his mix.

My third place vote goes to FiremanJoe. Honestly...I'm not really sure what to say on this. I'm not entirely sold on the lyrics, but hey, it's a week long contest. Anyway, lyrics aside, the mix is tight rhythmically. I'm really not sure what else to say.

Fluffy- around :17 where the strings and guitar build - keep it up, that begins to sound good.. my ears want it to continue =P
Goodbye- spoken word just doesn't appeal to me here. Liking the groove alot though.

I'll be brief this time due to voting during a 15 minute break. Feedback is provided in alphabetical order based on the artist's username.

[analoq - goodbye, rachel]
Very laid back, nice blend of live and sequenced stuff. I don't like the talking but it does fit and without it a lot of areas would have seemed pretty empty. Good interpretation of the original and well produced.

[Chickenwarlord - Fluffy Flight]
The first thing that's noticeable to me is the fact that the strings have a long attack on them that makes it hard to tell what they are playing. The arrangement is light and happy but a better choice of instruments could have been chosen and the production is generally lacking. The abrupt ending doesn't suit the style of the track.

[FiremanJoe - Flying (featuring ToN & Jildon)]
I personally don't like the vocals but without them the track would be quite empty. I like the little motifs from the original but there isn't really that much of it in here. The choice of instrumentation is good and the drum loops are okay but the kick drums are pretty much inaudible.

[Nutritious - Frequent Flyer Miles]
Arrangement is pretty cool, I mainly like the use of the saxophone. The bass and drums don't provide anywhere enough as much of a groove. The track sounds like typical lift music.

So here I am making a vote on my own competition. Do these votes show up once the compo is done?

Still, I dig analoq's stuff pretty well. When it comes to a production level I see it to be the stronger of the four, and it also seemed pretty engaging as well.

FiremanJoe also provided a solid foundation to go for as well and was more dependant on the original as a foundation for the mix, which is good. But somehow the quality of the vocal recording seemed to dampen it on a technical level, though it was cool to see it make its way into the comp. Is it me or do those lyrics somewhat make me think of Conker?

Nutritious happened to overcome his way into third place in my book. I didn't quite find his mix to be as engaging as the other two, but his way on interpreting the source seems clever for a debut into the PRC, and I find it to be a little more substantial than Chickenwarlord's abrupt effort (sorry to say that).

Still, you guys managed to do well for a first PRC hosted here at ThaSauce, and I hope the input continues to persist.

As much as I like analoq, I just don't like it when he talks during his songs. And I like jazz, but don't much like rap.

So, Nutritious comes first, analoq second, and Fireman Joe third. Chickenwarlord's didn't sound as good as Fireman Joe's, so that one didn't make the Top 3 for me.
