Star Warrior because I love kirby.

Magical Treasure Chest because I love my childhood.

Chasing the Impalpaple because it's slightly unnerving.

Everyone did a bang up job. :3

This was an AMAZING compo, you guys. I hope that many of you go back and finish your songs.

Prophecy, yours really nailed the theme.
Willrock, yours tickled my happy bone and made me happy.
Level99, this absolutely captured the theme. I do agree that the reverbed snare kinda gets icky after a while, but the feeling the rest of the song captures makes up for it.

Willrock's will rock and did rock and I fucking loved it. It's well written and polished and synthetic and dreamy and melodic and awesome.

Level99 of course pulled out the redonkulous guitar work, and like I said to him in chat, if it hadn't been for those silly dare-I-say-drums, he'd have been my numero uno.

Aaaaand mv pulled out the real trippy dreamyness with backwards talking and ambient synthetic textures and all sorts of madness, and made it an incredible length, too. Sweet.

Wow, this was probably the hardest to vote compo evar!

First place goes to Gario: I really love the atmosphere you set up there, with all the elements thrown in there and all the different parts and transitions.

Second place goes to Bren: I love the story behind your track, and it also fits the description very well.

Third place goes to willrock07 for his awesome Unreal-ish track. Maybe not fitting the theme too well, but I really liked the production and style.

I also liked like 12 other songs, so don't be mad at me for not voting for your great tracks. It was a nice round!

L99 is just full of awesome and so is this song.
Prophecy's was good but didn't quite nail the theme on the head for me.
Emunator's was super calming.

DDRKirby - This song is just so much fun. Depeche Mode!
Jakesnke - I wouldn't want to wake up from this dream.

Honorable mention:
Emuniator - Great peaceful song

ddrkirby had Mr. Do sounds. wins.

YOU ARE ALL AWESOME. I seriously wish I could just give first place to all of you. This week was insane!

There is no way I can evaluate the songs based on their awesomeness because they were all awesome. So instead I will base my rankings off of small silly things.

1st place - sci - Distant Dream Imagery
Filter sweeped synth pad into chiptune arp. THIS MADE MY DAY, and still does every time I hear it.

2nd place - starla - Could Be A Dream
That trance bass and 4-on-the-floor really hit the spot during listening party. \m/

3rd place - willrock07 - DreamScape
Nostalgia! Everything about this is tailored for that specific sound, and it's great!

and here's some feedback for the ridiculous amount of entries we had this week! (do yourself a favor and read this all in an internal Strong Bad voice. Makes it possibly worth the read, maybe)

-------------------BIGASSBLOCKOFTEXT-------------------------

AINOR - Despite having pretty much nothing to do with the theme, this definitely made me lol. Next time, voice in both ears please. Also capturing dreams of ragerofl. "YOU KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE? I'M TIRED OF YOUR CRAP!"

Amaterasu - Strangley unsettling, it does have some dreamcatching qualities, although it feels like the dream wasn't all it was cracked up to be (and I like that idea as a premise). Reminds me of the music from Young Frankenstein, particularly the family violin melody. Simple and atmospheric.

Arcana - I don't know what was in the water in Vegas but, holy crap man, I don't remember you being this awesome! The bell jingle reminds me of the NiGHTS leitmotif, the whole soundscape is just very dreamy, and that hand percussion is awesome. Although it can be a little repetitive, I most-definitely enjoyed this one. Interesting chord progressions, too! Catching those dreambells.

Beatdrop - Interesting approach, for sure. It's too smooth to be bombastic, but the way sounds come in and out is chaotic, which is pretty cool. This is a cool enough base to expand upon for an original track, to be sure. Catching distorted synth dreams.

BillCakes - You have very spastic dreams, which is why they're so hard to catch, man! Cool guitar work, as usual, and this thing is jumping all over the place with style and sound. Pretty cool ADHDdreamcatching. Mexican birthday party -> lovemaking stuffs -> 70's detective theme ?

Brandon Strader - Different to say the least. Verbal untz? Seems like you're catching some Cronenberg-ish dreams. I can imagine some weird indie black-and-white art film montage on top of this as some film student's final project, and half the class doesn't "get" what the film is about. WHY IS THAT CLOWN FLIPPING PANCAKES WHILE THE LADY IS CRYING?

Bren - always a big bringer of coolness, this is a really nice mesh of tradition instrument and retrogame sounds. More like catching dreams of castlevania boss battles, AMIRITE? No, I'm probably not right, but this was cool nonetheless. More like dream-yearning than dream-catching, but you gotta have the former before you get the latter!

CJthemusicdude - catching dreams of JC Denton dancing in the club in Deus Ex, maybe? Enjoyable rhythm and a pretty catchy hook, dude! Digging the almost-glitch sounds.

Cyrilthewolf - CATCHING SEXY BASS BATTLE CH'AWWWWWWYEAH! Okay, stretching the catching dream element there, but your gritty vs. style here was awesome. *hipthrusts*

Darkesword - Oh yes, I can definitely hear dreamcatching in this thing! It just barely missed my top three, dude. This is so soothing and wonderful and all that jazz, almost feels like it should be part of the FFX soundtrack. Catching dreams of WAIT TIDUS IS JUST A DREAM?! son-of-a...

DDRKirbyISQ - Dreams of catching that M-tomato before it falls off screen! GAHH! Chippy goodness is abound here, so creative, and fluffy. Yes, the song actually sounds fluffy to me. I am envious of your 8-bit sound.

dusthillguy - Dreams of penis-filled sonic levels and omg. Liked some of the sounds until it all went nuts of the end. Also could do with less penis.

Emunator - another one that just barely didn't make the top 3 list, dude. Any good pianist is able to turn that instrument into a weapon of entrancing melody, and this (while it does linger on a BIT long) is no exception. Catching a dream of hope, purity, and the promise of a better tomorrow. This is like the song that's played when you welcome a first-born child into the world...except not the whole bloody and gross and crying part, obviously. (side note - could do with a bit more normalization to bump up the levels on the whole).

Gario - hot damnnnnnnnnnnnn, dude. Chilling bells and LFO use at start, then a triumphant battle cry of catching dreams of victory! I can taste the triumph on my headphones! Kickass work, dude, and another one that I wish I could have given points to! The LFO use was ridiculously rumbly in my car, so I'm glad the speakers didn't blow.

GLL - Cool stuff that makes a good transition to the main part of the song. Mostly good, but the uneven tonality of the voice detracted a bit from the rest. Then again, adding autotune to it would have also sounded cop-outish. Great idea for a song though! Catching dreams of catching dreams of catching dreams of...

HarmDis - Catching dreams of single bells that leave me wanting more.

Jakesnke17 - Blow me out of the water with your music, why don't ya!? Catching dreams of crunk hunnies, you are. Schweeeeeet.

JH_Sounds - Also catching dreams of sweet crunk hunnies grabbing your fly bling. Where's the mandatory R&B break by Tenerence Love? Nice work, dude. Cool usage of theremin, too.

Kaxon - Dreams of making me so depressed, apparently. Effective, though, and can't fault the instrumentation!

Level 99 - friggin n00b

mv - simply gorgeous. Your sounds paint a dreamcatching picture so vividly detailed that my mind can't but help imagine the ethereal vision every time I hear this. Love the sounds used, especially the birds and voices. Great work, dude.

Obtuse - Pretty cool, my bro. Catching dreams of old adlib soundfiles. Why is Wolfenstein 3d so hard?!

OCRE - She's a dreamcatcher, dreamcatcher, oh yeah. And she's square waving like she never square-waved before! Upbeat and catching, albeit short as is your style.

Prophecy - I'm speechless. That's about all I got. How you did this in an hour...well, I realise how one COULD but it's so ridiculously awesome. Here's my card, my studio officially wants to license the Dreamcatcher movie you wrote the theme for. Have your people call my people.

RAMPKORV - Catching dreams of more than one compo entry?

sci - very baby-dreamish, as if catching that dream about the really big "milk bottle", or a woman's natural alternative. Love the bit bits. C64-style?

Shadix - Dreamcatching that really big creepy native American burial ground and then it becomes daylight and I don't have to worry anymore. Stamp of approval on that. Like the piano a lot too.

starla - Catching that dream of POP STAR VOCAL HOOK. FINISH THE SONG! Friggin awesome. Now, write a song about robots!

Suzums - You caught that one dream I had about reality and the nature of being and whoa the universe is HUGE. FOR THE HORDE!

Usabell - Dreams of catching that one amazing thing that makes life worth living. Glorious sounds, Mr. Bell. And great layering of instruments, this could absolutely be movie-score material.

wildfire - absolutely dreamcatchy, and the variance of the bells and chimes is very pleasant. So chipper and happy sounding.

willrock07 - it's like an 80's synth anthem of catching that dream, winning the championship, and going home with the prom queen. ALMOST made it to my top list as well.

The competition for this round was unbelievably awesome. So many good entries makes it REALLY hard to choose just 3. But I did. You're all still awesome though.

Extremely tough voting this week, just too many good entries. If Prophecy didn't spend an hour convincing me he didn't cheat I wouldn't have voted for him.

Starla, the repetition did annoy me, but your song just sounded so good and it was so catchy I caved in and voted for ya for #2.

Level99, I liked the whole vibe going on. I loved how it fit the theme and how well executed this song was. Good job. You get my third vote.

I would have given a vote to DDRKirby had it fit the theme better and had he not used music from Link's Awakening. This song is just pure awesomeness.

Many, many great entries. I had a lot of difficulty in choosing my top 3. Eventually, after many listens, I settled on 3 tracks.

1. First place, because I thought it was artistic and creative, as well as possessing a mature arrangement.

2. Excellent vocal melody and a cool beat. Sounds like the type of song I'd like to remix.

3. Arrangement ftw.
