Blaine - Really liked your choice of instrumentation, and your re-arranging of the source kept it fresh (like you planned), however at 1:34 you lost all the excellent background melody that you had been building up since the start. Outro was excellent as well.

bundeslang - I think I can see what you were tying to do here but it didn't quite come across as well as it could have, the cuts from one part of the source jumping to another was quite jarring at times. I could hear the hi-hat in your percussion well enough but the kick was very low in volume and I couldn't actually tell if there was any snare at all. That could just be my earphones though.

evktalo - A more laid-back take than the other guys :) I like the percussive elements of your choice of instruments and the flute synth worked well. Some nice background melodies in there as well.

gercr - I like that you've given the bassline some love, but in doing so you seem to have neglected the rest of the instrumentation and kind of 'phoned it in' fo the leads and drum tracks. Also if you're going to make the bass the center-piece then make sure it doesn't get lost in the mix like this did a few times. Check out PrototypeRaptor's remix of Cheetahmen II on the main OCR site for a good example of the bassline being used and abused to the max :)

Jorito - Holy crap Jorito, that's pretty amazing stuff. I can't hear anything that suggests you're not a 'real' vocalist, the style you've chosen works well with the track. Polish that up any more and you'll be able to submit it to OCR :D

First of all I must say I'm pleasanty surprised by the entries to the compo and also in the interpretations. Of course the last one was a bit intentional since I picked such a short track... ;)

Anyways, here goes:

Blaine - nice intro with interesting buildup. Arps seems to be a bit off/distracting when the main part starts. Digging the drum sounds! The brass chords also work well. Some parts sound slightly dissonant at times. Ending sounds cool too, could have been even better if the synth was replaced by a more bell like sound for this kinda dreamy feel you seem to be going for. Overall, apart from the dissonances a very enjoyable entry!

evktalo - again a nice intro! I'm liking the overall mood and subtle variations you added and the pitchbends you added here and there are a nice touch too! Melody seems a bit buried in the mix and the sounds seem a bit thin. The bass could have used a bit sharper attack to make it stand out a bit more in stead of the somewhat muddiness it now has. Nice touch near the end too, you probably could have ended the song at around 1:55 in stead of with a fade out.

gercr - interesting approach with the bass! I think it works pretty well, only the bass has a bit too much sustain, making it unclear at times. Also some nice drum breaks and variations in there! The ending seems a bit abrupt and weird tho. With a bit more polishing of the mix to make the bass stand out and make it less muddy and with some richer drum samples you can take this a few steps further quite easily!

bundeslang - great that you dusted off FL Studio and welcome to MnP as a contributor! Never thought into turning it into a trancy song. The trance stabs caught me off guard but work pretty well. Bass might need a bit more oomph, it seems buried now. The drums could use a bit of tuning; the hihats are a bit loud and personally I'm not a big fan of the distorted kick. For a first try after ages of doing nothing it's actually not bad, just keep at it!

evktalo: The opening reminds me of metroid =P I really like how well everything fits together, felt like one cohesive creation.

gercr: I really liked what you did with the bass part. The only thing was that it felt like it was fighting the melody at times, I think more variation in the dynamics/velocities throughout would help make it go from good to great =]

bundeslang: Definitely the heaviest entry 0_0 I like what you have going, but I think a bit more variety in the sounds (even just secondary effects or something) would really help add an extra layer of interest =]

Jorito: Awesome job! You really did go all out with this =] I think there's potential here to make this a submit-able remix, you might want to hold onto this idea and work on it more =D

Blaine - I like the way you played around with the source. There's much in the song, especially on the background, in a good way.
Evktalo - Great start, I liked how you slowed the source, and varied it. The ending is predictable, but amazing.
Gercr - Funny idea to make the bass more dominant. It works well with the ending.

Jorito - This is amazing, the vocals are a really nice addition and works excellent with the way you mixed the source. Great job.

Bundeslang - Terrible start, terrible midpart, terrible last part and last but not least, a last place vote and not filled in in any of the boxes of course. You'll need this first place voter bonus to get at least some points :P

Jorito - I want that Realivox Blue instrument damnit; so cool!! The remix feels sort of slow compared to the original - not sure if its an actual tempo change or if its the drum beat, but luckily this is a Bonus track so all grooood. I probably woulda voted you at least second anyway lol.

Blaine - Full and well varied soundset as usual! I loved the energy and I think you best captured that anime top-down-shooter feeling and with some decent reinterpretation to boot!

gercr- Nice touch with the bass, also sweet synth brassy samples they worked nice here! - I think the entire mix could have been a bit louder, but eh it's a small gripe.

evktalo - Sweet pitch bending and chippy-sounding feel and that super crunchy feel!

Bundeslang - Needs snares mon and maybe a reduction of the bass drum dB!! Still I'm very happy to see you participating in the compo scene again!! (other than hosting PRC lol)

Sortie - Really nice opening with pretty good sounding synths, sets a nice space adventure mood. I like most of the variations on the original structure/harmony/bassline quite a bit, some of it is off but most of the time the reworking of the original is fresh. Drums don't flow with a nice groove, seem a bit stuttery for a lack of a better word. I think my piece has the same problem. The bass sound is pretty nice, it could've been more upfront in the mix.

Fly Away With Me - unpolished, but the approach to the material definitely works. One of the synths is incredibly noisy in a very interesting way, I like the texture.

Bassleste - I liked the walking bass styled bits in the jamming bass guitar, that could make for an interesting approach to the source tune!

Flying High - Very, very eighties.. the sound is clear and floaty, and the easy start is very nice. The vocal plugin sounds pretty nice! Especially the harmonies sound very good. My main criticism is the section after the first vocals, 1:04-1:21 seems to lose some of the energy and light-footed drive that the piece overall has. The lead seems kind of thin/nasal in that section yet "attention-hogging" (up to 1:42, but there's some good-sounding parts where it's layered with other lead sounds). The same sound sounds good layered circa 2:40. Overall, a very good track!
