Orchestrations is a fairly natural fit for the big guy. The strings menace quite well.

Koopa Kruisin has fascinating little chip flairs (love 'em!) and some pretty nifty drum loops.

So Funk-eh, unfortunately, seems fairly flat. The drums are spicy enough for what they need to do, but the rest of the sounds have very little energy to them. Since it's a MnP compo, I can't get too upset about arrangement, but I think a little more variation would've been good.

esperado - This is actually more conservative than you claimed :P - the mood and style are more-or-less the same and the instrumentation isn't straying too far away - the most obvious difference is the percussion...but eh, percussion isn't the focus on the source tune either, really, as it focused on that funky/jazy/blues-ish feel. So yeah you won with flying colours for me. Also...you added in some REINTERPRETATION that works sexilly well, so good job dude.

Trism - Nice touch here Trism, alas not quite as robust as esperado's take, and needed a little more reinterpretation. If I was competing and decided to take your approach, then I'd probably add in other orchestral instruments into the mix - even if their sound quality isn't top notch (look at my FFX remix from round 3 and shudder haha). In all honesty, I'd have a tough time beating esperado if I was competing as well lol. So yeah, this is a nice remix over-all. Nice work.

GrapplingHook: Not bad, but also somewhat um...well like what I sounded like 3 years ago (rough around the edges :P). This source tune is actually tougher than it appears, since it's using jazz/funk and blues which can be tricky to sequence with when starting up. I give it a C+ for effort :D

Kitty: Well you participated, and that's what matters - the drums and other synths you used sounded very MIDI, in fact many of which felt like the same instruments as the MIDI artist who made it. Which DAW are you running on? I know quite a few people who can help you if it's FL Studio...as well as other DAW's. Just don't give up - much like riding a bicycle, you'll fall down and get scrapes and bruises, but you get back up and try again, so keep at 'em broseph :D

esperado: I didn't think this was too adventurous at all, it was much less so than some of HoboKa's examples. It kept the feel of the source material, and the game areas it's played in, very well. Fun arrangement, reasonably good production.

kitty: Not terribly exciting, and the main lead has some odd LFO volume thing going on that's very distracting. Overall not bad, though.

Trism: Overkill on the tremolo in a big way. Cymbals at 0:33 etc sound horrible. I suspect that's part of the MIDI, since GrapplingHook did the same thing, but exorcise when needed! Lead violin is a little too fake for my tastes, and I like fake instruments.

GrapplingHook: Quiet! That's the only thing that distinguishes yours from Trism's, quality-wise. It was a tough call whether that or the excessive vibrato of Trism's bugged me more. Otherwise, same strengths, same weaknesses.

Koopa Kruisin: Nice variations kept me interested with a great beat.
Orchestrations of a Dragon King: The strings sounded pretty good! But I think the rapid alternating bass drum and hi-hat should have been taken out to keep the sound more consistent.
Bowser's Gonna Rock You: The guitar sounds awesome, but the synth was a bit too shrill for me.

No time for write-ups right now, I'll try and post them on OCR at some point.

Trism:Yours was the most full sounding remix of the three, so good job there! Similar to your PRC remix this week ( you really like the orchestral stuff!) you need to try to humanize and automate the strings to really give it a less mechanical feel. all the best samples in the world and a stiff perforamance is still stiff. Aside from that, this seems pretty solid.

GrapplingHook: Definitely sounds like you had fun designing the bass. Your snare is also playing hide and seek. nice choice on the hat and ride samples.

kitty:First composition or just first competition? Either way, this isnt bad for a first shot at composition. Nice job with the panning, and the vibe is nice and mellow. Your sounds are a bit dry, and the drums are a bit on the stiff side. Again, not bad for a new guy though :)

Trism's is definitely the most enjoyable to listen to in my opinion, while still keeping to the source.

esperado has the best quality sounds and his arrangement is the most creative, but still conservative enough. Trism has the upper hand on GrapplingHook for sound quality, but GrapplingHook has a fuller arrangement.
