Flexstyle: very good use of synths and rythm
Showroom_Dummy: Kind of clubby with good variation
Seto: A soothing remix, but still keeping the pace.

Showroom Dummy's piece is what got me interested in the source tune in the first place. I had played the game, but for the life of me could not remember a single track from it.

setokaibarocket provides a change of pace from this trance-centric competition, albeit inadvertently.

I was gonna give Binweasel my second, but the entry seems way too low in volume for me. Instead, you get third.

In reverse chronological order so nobody knows whether they are 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th! Also because I don't want to bother ranking them all! Here we go!

Setokaibarocket - Interesting sound. I like it. It was fun to listen to, but it wasn't original enough for me.

Just64helpin - Made me think of Donnie Darko; it was way trippy. I had to listen again to find the source underneath all that distracting stuff, and it seems like it's just barely there.

NeoS - Very well-done, for the most part. The problem is that it can get very repetitive. You only use the first part of the song, and the remix is almost 7 minutes. The one part where it felt fresh and interesting was from around the 3-minute mark to the 5-minute mark (the piano was a great touch). The other sections are well-produced and whatnot, but they just lack the "ooh, cool" factor found in the middle.

Binweasel - Some cool arrangement ideas here, but it does sound very midi-like.

Flexstyle - Ah, great sound; very nice. The whole throbbing thing was very well-done. Despite its length, it didn't really get too repetitive. My only problem with it is that it could use a bit more arrangement, though I can hear some subtle changes in there.

Hoboka - The time-shifting is actually pretty interesting, and it works. Anyway, I'm liking a lot of the concepts in this mix, and that's what pushed you into the top three. It could use better sound quality, but hey. Oh, and the ending is pure win.

Showroom_Dummy - I think this is the best-sounding entry that has a good amount of arrangement. When the actual tune started, I half-expected you to bust out the StarTropics underground theme. XD Also, the beginning of the ending is really freaking weird, in a cool way. Then it all fits together and sounds great.

Showroom Dummy - There's a lot of goodness in the intro, but it takes a while before the song comes to life. I like the electro/chip combi. I don't like the last 17 seconds of the song.
HoboKa - I like the intro, the string is nice and so are the drums. After a minute, the drumline is a bit too loud. I don't like the 'thing' around 1:30. I like the last section.
Flexstyle - Interesting start. It's calm, but nice. I like the built up around 2:50, the part before that isn't very living. The drums are dominating the song too much at 3:30. I like the samples you used. The last part is good.
Binweasel - I like the sampling. The 'song change' at 1:47 is a bit drastic, but not bad for it. The 'dead' at 3:18 isn't very nice, but I like the last section. The end is too long and not much happends there.
NeoS (hifi) - The start is to aggressive, but I like the drums and bass. The intro is very good and I also like the next part. I love the part after 3:00, everything fits and the combination is good. Great entry.
Just64helpin - I don't like the 'talking' through the song. Not much happends in it, it's short compared to the other songs.
Setokaibarocket - Interesting style, not much used in PRC. The bassline fits well with it, the drums too. After a while it gots a little boring and not much else happends till 1:48. I like that lead coming in.

Nice turnout with a lot of good (and long) songs.

1. Showroom_Dummy created such a FUNKAY version of Venus Lighthouse, it's not even funny! Can't stop moving here, and the production is just great. Love your instrumentation and your beat and bass work. All-around excellent job!

2. NeoS created some fairly typical OCR trance, but this song was just SCREAMING to be turned into a trance mix. That's why it got two of them, I suppose. A lil' muddy in the lower-mid-end, but still decently mixed. I feel it could have been somewhat more creative in the arrangement, but overall a good job.

3. Setokaibarocket has a neat lil' downtempo version of VLH, I like the little sine blippies in there. Nice sitar usage too. Good work.

All the other mixes I just wasn't feeling, honestly. A little too "out there" with J64 and hoboka, and B-Weasel hit it straight on when he said his mix is a lil' muddy.

Good work to all of you though, and good luck to all as well!

I really liked the first two. The other one was really kind of a distant third.

Hmmm... last time I didn't enter a PRC that got a ton of entries, the composer of the song was Motoi Sakuraba. And so it is this time as well. Interesting point +1.

Showroom Dummy: Nice arrangement and good use of the theme. I have to say that I probably found the FX used in this piece to be the most effective of everything in the competition. There were a couple of times where the bass seemed a bit wonky, but all around, good chiptuney fun.

HoboKa: Slowing down the theme was a nice idea, but backing instrumentation and drums crowded the piece a bit much. The backing pads seriously drown this mix in a wall of sound at times (not necessarily a bad thing) in a way that sounds unintentional.

Flex: Great mastering, but I found that your song had lulls in its building sections that left me a little bit impatient. I found the sidechaining gets a bit obnoxious after awhile.

Binweasel: As you said, this suffers from an extreme case of the murky depths syndrome. But I did like the arrangement that you applied to the theme. Also, props on the TMBG love. The biggest issue I had with the mastering (aside from the overall mud) was the huge cutting across the texture done by the bells. They're downright piercing in a painful way.

Neos: A little bit too loud overall, but this is a great listen. 2:59's fadeaway seemed pretty awkward to me. But for the most part, I loved the entirety. Good dance/trance.

Just64helpin: It's a good concept mix (like I so usually try to do), but it neither hurt nor brought me pleasure. The whispering in the background was definitely not haunting though.

Setokaibarocket: You chose to shift the emphasis of the melody, which was interesting, but I found your sound choices to counterbalance that. Nothing really stood out for me. A little more attention to detail and this could've been great.

A lot of good ones this time, so it was kind of hard to choose. But my final pick is: Flexstyle first, Showroom Dummy second, and hoboka third. I guess I just like the eletronica.

Whew, a hard comp to vote for, especially with two absolutely brilliant trance tracks =P

Flexstyle - Choosing yout mix or NeoS' for first place was a soul-tearing decision; both

your tracks are beautiful examples of trance. Eventually I decided to choose this one; nice

ambient pad and sound fx. Hmm... The delayed piano is okay... Hehe, nice filters and synths.

And when it kicks in, it's nice and hard and simply sounds kickass. The synth coming in at

4:20 compliments nicely.

NeoS: Another really great trance mix. The scratchy sfx are interesting, and the supersaw

from 1:37 (and a bit before) sounds good. Its counter melody here suits it well. Pads are

nice. The break from 3:02 sounds different but nice. When the main melody kicks in it's nice

but just doesn't make you feel like moving your feet as much as Flexstyle's. Altogether, a

really well-made mix =D

Binweasel: Sounds a bit muddy as you said but the interpretation is nice. The fake guitar

sounds surprisingly good. The instruments are pretty good although some of the brass sounds

a bit funny, but it all fits in well actually. In conclusion, nicely interpretative and

comes together very nicely.

Hoboka - An interesting mix, certainly very interpretative also. The 5th saw sounds out of

place though I sorta feel. Argh, and the jingly stuff at 1:40 hurts my ears, lol.

Altogether, quite a nice mix; I like your style even if it's a bit out of the norm =D

Showroom Dummy: Quite a nice mix; I like chiptune sounds a lot in mixes <3 Well

interpretative, and the bass sounds sweet - indeed, that whole part from 3:00 sounds pretty

cool.

just64helpin: Kinda disturbing but cool, lol
